Pickman's: As helpful as ever.

For some reason their phone's duff, but you can get in touch via the Mexican kitchen bloke.

The number for El Panzon is...

...I'm just waiting for Merv from behind the bar to send me the number...

I've texted Dub the number of the Hobgoblin (Mexican border side) but, if anyone's even vaguely interested, you can reach El Panzon on 020 7924 9888.

I think they're doing delivery now, so if anyone's needs a burrito from the comfort of their sofa...

:)

Is Pickman's trying to get some late entries in for the "Most pointless post of 2005" prize?

That's good news about El Panzon doing home deliveries, I think with that I'm going to be all set for hibernation....

Eh? Why on earth would they do something ridiculous like that?

fuck knows... i mean i can understand they don't want to be associated with a chain pub name but why not return to the originally name (george canning)... the terminus is crap.

TBH the hobgob seems to have lost it recently. everytime i've been in there on a friday/saturday night it's been eerily empty. sad.

"Situated at the junction of Effra Road and Water Lane, The George Canning public house was the terminus of a London General Omnibus Company bus route."

The annual Oxford CAMRA Beer Festival used to take place at Long Hanborough Bus Museum (http://www.oxfordbusmuseum.org.uk/) with the tables set just in front of the old vehicles.

I'd argue with that - its cleaned its act up a lot. The food's some of the best in Brixton now too.

the food is fantastic, and the pub looks a lot better. but it's still a depressing place, even if it's not for a wake.

Aaah haven't been for a few years tbh it was a right shithole before - you could always have a right messy night in there though :)

A lot of regulars have moved on - the music's changed a lot too, I was in there briefly on Saturday night and they seemed to be playing some plinkety-plonkety piano stuff!

I've always liked the Hob - I suppose I like it a little less now it's not as scuzzy as it used to be and they've stopped doing 4X at £1.50 a pint, but eating Mexican food and drinking beer by an open fire is still a fine way to spend a winter's Sunday afternoon...

this might be a lot of its problem - it's no longer the big draw it was a few years ago (when i started drinking there in the early 90s it was like bloody Glastonbury every night :D ) but it's such a big place. so yeh, a quiet afternoon pint or whatever is fine, but on a weekend evening it just seems really soul-destroying somehow
