perhaps bad timing what with 'cafe culture' under-fire at the moment, but hey, here's the ritzy cafe free stuff for this weekend...there's a rumour that the great Cleveland Watkiss (www.clevelandwatkiss.com) might be guesting at HKB Finn's Organix night on saturday.

Fri 2 Dec – The Rushes
Not ones to live up to their name, acoustic duo The Rushes have spent the last year writing and recording material with two highly influential players in the music world - Youth and Simon Tong. Youth, whose work as an artist includes playing in Killing Joke and The Orb was the acclaimed producer of The Verve’s “Urban Hymns” album, for which he won a 1998 BRIT Award as well as having worked for Dido, Embrace, Paul McCartney, Fine Young Cannibals and James.
Simon Tong was lead guitarist on 'Urban Hymns' and later performed lead guitar for Blur and worked with Damon Albarn on 'Malimusic' and the new Gorillaz album.
Although a young band, the preparation has clearly paid off – they are headlining the Iceland Airwaves festival in October with the song 'I Swear' which is being put out on the festivals' compilation CD as well as being a focus of an internet download offer through Virgin Megastores here in the UK later this year.
Following in the footsteps of the likes of Ritzy-residents The New Telepathics and Julia Biel, the Ritzy is proud to present the second of their monthly residencies (first Friday of each month) which sees them try out new material and hone their craft in an intimate atmosphere. Their debut album is set for release early next year so catch them close up before they head for bigger shores…Ones to watch out for.

Sat 3 Dec – Organix feat HKB Finn
After several guest slots for DJ Eric Soul’s Afrogroov night here at the Ritzy, HKB Finn and friends are back with a night of their own due to popular demand. DJs Miss Good Grooves and Adroit play broken flavours, Afro-beats, atmospheric Latin grooves with a live performance from spoken word artist HKB FiNN featuring Tunde Jegede on kora and percussion and Sona on Acoustic Guitar and vocals. With a varied background that spans life in various parts of the African diaspora and stints fronting two metal bands, the legendary rap group Katch 22 and working with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Finn has come into his own as a solo artist. His last album topped the MOJO list of Urban Albums of the Year and received a 5-star review in the Times.
”He’s not just one of the guys from mid 90’s group, Katch 22, he’s not just a labelmate with Def Tex and a hip-hop soldier from way back. He is an intelligent soulful brother with oodles of information on the history of African music and the connotations of slavery filtering down through the ages into the information age. HKB Finn is a true-skool rapper, an inspiration to listen to” UK Hip-Hop

Mon 5 Dec – The End of Suburbia (Green Party Screening and Discussion)
A free screening of 'The End of Surburbia' about oil depletion and the collapse of the American dream. After the film at 8.15pm there will be a short panel discussion with Tom Tibbets, Green Party Energy Spokesperson and Paul Ingrams, Green Party Defence Spokesperson and Shane Collins, Lambeth Green Party
'The End of Surburbia' (78mins)
As we enter the 21st century serious questions are beginning to emerge about the sustainability of our way of life. With brutal honesty and a touch of irony, 'The End of Surburbia' explores the American way of life and its prospects as the planet approaches a critical era, as global demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip supply. The consequences of inaction in the face of this global crisis are enormous. What does the peak of oil supply mean for industrialised societies ? As energy prices skyrocket in the coming years, how will the populations of suburbia react to the collapse of their dream? Are today's suburbs destined to become the slums of tomorrow? And what can be done now, individually and collectively, to avoid the end of suburbia?
