Well! I'm just off the phone to the bloke who came round to look at my boiler this morning. He told me this morning that I needed a new "diverter valve" and a new thermocouple. Apparently these parts were going to cost about £400, all because the boiler in my house is a shitty old Italian built thing...

After a brief search on the web, I came up with 3-4 companies offering the very same piece for under £50.

I looked up the prices of new boilers, and for the quoted "repair cost" I could buy myself a new bloody boiler!

So looks like I have narrowly avoided being royally RIPPED off by this joker

But I am stuck now with (a) a huge mistrust of names picked at random out of the yellow pages, and (b) a boiler that still needs a bit of work done on it. Can anyone recommend me someone who will do the work without trying to remove the remaining few shekels in my bank account? A PM would do, and if anyone wants to know who this person was that tried to charge me 1000% over the odds for a diverter valve, I'd be happy to PM them the details.

Send the Channel 4 film crew around now, I'm ready for them :)

He probably had a sneaky piss in your cistern as well!

Dunno about plumbers though, I'm sorry.

Thats one of the most annoying things about moving away from your childhood home/family, you lose all your school mates and Dad's mates who'll have look at dodgy cars/boilers/garden walls/financial advice.

Hope you get it sorted, otherwise you'll be nipping into Splott Pool for a sneaky shower.

I've been using Splott Pool frequently over the summer, and there's probably more kiddie piss in there than any plumber could reasonably empty into my cistern :)

They keep their pool well urinated in Splott, they do!

Nice out, tho, innit?
