This is from the CAN (http://crow.riseup.net/cardiffanarchists/) email list, yesterday, Thursday 13th October:

St Martins Parish Squat in the Cathays area of Cardiff faced a violent illegal eviction at mid-day today. The landloard with 4 other men turned up to the building at mid-day today equipped with crowbars and hammers, when told that they would need eviction papers to remove the occupiers the landloard et al climbed over the fence and attacked the occupiers. One occupier who had previously been told that the landlord was gong to "kick his head in" if he didnt leave was repeatedly hit and kicked until he fell unconsious. A number of other occupiers and people giving support were injured due to hammer attacks and bits of 2x4 with nails in. The police were then called who reluctantly arrested the landlord and the other 4 men. An ambulance arrived and two ocupiers were taken to hospital for head injuries broken ribs and arms.

1000s are homeless- Squat now!

SQUATS EVERYWHERE NEED YOUR HELP

  Hope the injured people aren't in too bad condition.

Is that the Parish Hall on crwys rd just before you get to the mosque?
Didn't realise that was being squatted., was it by the two old blokes who usually sit in the doorway?
 @ Nice big building in a cool place going to waste + people being turned out onto the street

I've asked for details of the owner of the building, perhaps letters of protest could be sent to let them know what is being carried out in their name. Otherwise a land registry search might throw up results.

To the best of my knowledge there hasn't been any squatting in Cardiff for a while, although I'm not best placed to comment on it. I heard about this eviction yesterday morning, but the dude who posted this message didn't give me the impression that there was going to be any aggro, otherwise I might have thought about going along to support it.

Don't think this will be the last squat in Cardiff at the mo, tho.

KBT - I don't actually know which building this is referring to. Do you mean the old redbrick building right opposite the Scream pub? Has been derelict since I can remember. The Parish of Roath St. Martins website is here. (http://www.stmartinsroath.org.uk/) I wonder what their connection to this is?

I don't mean that one now, (thats got the sign of a club outside?)
I mean the one further up crwys rd (towards the co-op) just opposite the police station and that shop that used to be an italian deli.

a bloke in my lab just said he saw a banner outside it yesterday too.

Unbelievable. Glad they got arrested though. Sounds like a clear case of GBH/wounding with intent to me. Hope they throw the book at them.

Hope the landlord doesn't get hold of that newsletter - it is highly defamatory.

What "newsletter" are you referring to Leon? And how can something be defamatory (in your opinion) when it doesn't refer to an identifiable person? Can you locate the building from this description? We couldn't. Do you know who the landlord is? We don't. Have you paid £2 to search the land registry to find the name, cos no one here has.

What, in fact, is the point of your post?
