Just if anyone's about
Passengers in the Tyne and Wear area should remain advised of current major ongoing system failures on the Tyne and Wear Metro System.
Following the National Grid Failure in Newcastle and North Northumberland last night (11/10) Nexus was forced to halt all services on the line.
This morning at 7am (11/10) the service control room at Gosforth suffered another power failure resulting in the unavoidable suspension of all trains for 5 hours.
Due to the adverse ongoing weather conditions in Newcastle and Tyne and Wear, Nexus are advising passengers that another failure is possible as the conduit lines take a period of time to handle full Metro traffic.
In the event of a failure, ALL Metro Stations will be closed and lighting turned off to indicate so. Uniformed Nexus Support Officers will be present, however following threats made to staff last night, Northumbria Police will provide support at major stations.
Passengers are advised that Metro tickets will be accepted on Stagecoach, Go Ahead and Arriva services. Independant companies and operators are not obliged to accept Metro passes or tickets. It is unlikely, due to constraints, that a replacement bus service wil operate. And we wholly apologise for this situation.
We thank passengers for the continued support of the service and will strive to restore a full system.
