I have friends who live on the west coast and as a result i always check the weather forecast for them, as well as my own sunny london.

Its no joke-its always raining.
how do you put up with the weather?
and do you get jealous/ bitter about the south east for its weather?

funnily enough, I love Scottish weather. It may rain a lot, but it certainly isn't boring - "four seasons in one day" is the cliché. There's nothing like watching those moody clouds descend.

Now the midgies - them I hate.

compared to scotty we live on the costa del thames... yeahn the whole of uk is a bit damp, but if the sun is out its out in london.

So many times I see London a good ten degrees hotter than Mallaig... and as for the east coast (brrrrr shudder!)

Moody clouds is all well and good...but everyday?

Four seasons in a day: autumn, winter, a cold spring day, and summer rain...

Id love to move to Scotland: I like the people, I like the hills, I like the politics of the devolved parliament (in general), I like the history, I like the wildlife, I like a bit of granite... I just dont think I could deal with the weather: thats why I'm asking: how do you do it? What does it take? Dont you ever feal like your missing out? If it gets warm do you start thinking, why cant it always be like this?

To be fair, if you live somewhere as beautiful as the badlands of scotland, the scenery and fresh air can make up for it... I can see that. Snow I dont mind...its just the rain...

It is not just about heat. On the east, some of the finest sunniest & most beautiful days can be the bitterly cold frosty ones in autumn & the end of winter. I'm looking forward to them already :) Weather is also more stable early & late-season :)

What does get to me is when there are long periods of unremmiting greyness. The east can be good for that.

Would prefer any of them to the lukewarm, sticky & grimy conditions I seem to find in the south tho.

Was talking about that with the other half last week. I was moaning about how, when I finally decide that I quite like the sunny summer, it's ttime for the dark nights to draw in again.

Then the other half mentioned the sunny but cold days, and my gloom lifted :)

I'm with you on the nondescript grey days as well.

I can't change it, why bother about it? After 22 years I'm used to it anyway

well it tends to be better than on the west coast of Scotland, where no doubt ducks are very happy. so my scottish informants in sunny South London tell me.

No, when it gets hot I start thinking 'roll on autumn'. I really don't do well in hot weather. A Scottish summer is plenty hot enough for me. Actually this year in the south-east of Scotland we've had a really good sunny summer, many days of 24-28 degrees sunshine, which is plenty hot for me.

When it's cold/windy/raining you just get used to dressing appropriately. I find most people's houses too hot too as I grew up in a house with no central heating and great gaps in the window sash in my bedroom (icicles on the inside of the window were a regular occurence when I was small).

Ditto that :) I'd rather have a tent ;)

The only people that have a problem with the weather, is the visitors

You buy decent outdoor gear, there's a wonderful range these days :p Berghaus, Barbour, Lowe Alpine, Jack Wolfe, etc.

I'll have you know I was doing my exercises in the garden in shorts and crop top this morning, it was lovely(NE coast)

Our air is clean, you don't get black snot, you can see the stars, the water is wonderful, so what if it rains sometimes(it hasn't rained here for ages and I have a rather big garden! )
Oh, and you get to see the Northern lights sometimes :p

I was in London last weekend and it wasn't particularly warm there either.

I do seem to find a lot of Scots don't like too much heat, 60f+ and both the males in this house don't like it. I can handle up to 75f, if I've nothing to do.

I lived in Europe and dahn sarf for 25 years before comming back here three years ago...

It's bluddy dire in comparison generally... This year has been one of the better years and only just started getting cool here in Balloch today..

The east coat is generally brighter than the west although not quite as warm..

Personally.. to use a local phrase.. "It's pish"..

Starting to get used to it after 11 weeks... ehm... not! I'm always cold, it's part of me I guess... It's a lot more windier here than in Holland and more often too! I don't mind the rain much, am working most days anyway (inside). It's nice to sit near the window though and then see the clouds in a range of colours and also, there are SO OFTEN rainbows here! Those are gorgeous :)

having been brought up on the west coast and now made the move to the east i must say i do not miss the rain. i love it over here! i used to dread winter and it pissing down every day, now it can go for days with out rain! i look forward to autumn, the colours, the smell, the sunshine! cold days where the sun is bright and the air is fresh!

i now live on the edge of dundee and have got a great view of the countryside. the difference in air quality is fantasitic compared to glas. don't get me wrong i would always love a hotter summer, but east is much better than west any day!

Scotland is in northern europe, where it rains and shit. if you live here, or if youre visiting here then you should know that, if you want sunny weather go and live in spain. As for london being sunny and warm....get a grip
