Just turning up at airport and getting a chaep flight? How easy??

Is it posible in this shitty lil country of ours? Just turn up at MAN with me passport, a carry on bag with a few changes of clothes and a few quid on me and walk around the terminals until I see a flight I like/late deal/stand by.

Is it?

What do I do?

Anyone done this?

don't think it's possible on the cheapo flights - a mate of mine tried to do this a few weeks ago but all the budget airlines will only let you fly with 'em if you're booked 24 hours in advance or something.

that's what i suspected - I was trying to get 'free' ryanair flights but they only seem to do these from Stanstead, the twats, and even then you have to book a week in advance :eek:

much easier in the states where they view internal flights like getting on a bus almost

I tried wandering around all the airline desks at Gatwick and Heathrow, didn't get anything.

In '98 my brother turned up to Heathrow with £250 and managed to get a flight to NZ. However, it took him twice as long as it would normally and it's bloody long flight anyway.

I keep hearing about people doing shit like this, but wonder quite how he managed it?

Did it require having dirty sex in the toilets with one of Air NZ battle axe ticketing staff? Just wondering...?
