i'm determined to get to more galleries / exhibitions etc as the autumn closes in, and thought it might be useful to start a thread (which might hopefully become a sticky) which could act either as a warning about upcoming shows, or recommendations from folk who've seen something marvellous and want to spread the word.

For a start, for example, there's a

Diane Arbus Retrospective
starting at the V&A in London on October 13th and running till early 2006

that i'm determined to get to.

let's have yours (and there's no reason why this should be London-centric - i believe they have art in the t'North).

Cheers. I wasn't aware of this, but will definitely try to get to it if/when I ever make it up to London in the next six months!

It does open just in time for the next PROD though... :)

Rachel Whitereads' sculpture 'Embankment' in the turbine hall of Tate modern is well worth going to see

Banksy has an exhibition in Notting Hill which is only on for the next 10 days but looks great - including real life rats scampering around the gallery!

my exhibition went well and we now have interest from Angela flowers of Flowers Central and Flowers east galleries

GELITIN : SWEATWAT
Oct 17 - Nov 26, 2005

Monday, 17 October - Friday, 21 October 2005, 6 - 11pm ("Service Complet")

Gagosian Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of Gelitin's "Sweatwat," which will be open for "Service Complet" for one week only, in the evenings from 6pm until 11pm, Monday to Friday, October 17th through the 21st.

Gelitin conceives the "Sweatwat":

"to feel like a humongous implosion, sucking you into deep and profound chaos, instability, joy and pure wonder. It offers visitors a chance to relax, paddle and freak out. Fresh clean waterfalls, slimy sofa islands, bridges of fear and beauty, all these miracles are made from leftovers of living and provide the terrain of the 'Sweatwat.'

Each of the five evenings will be open for the joy and relaxation of everybody. Yoga, dancing, drinking, singing, simple or sophisticated pleasures. 'Sweatwat' is there for you. Deliver your body and if you happen to have a cello at home bring it along. You will be welcome to don a robe, hang-out and soak up the treats in store at the spa-like atmosphere of the 'Sweatwat.'"

Banksy presents Crude Oil,

100,Westborne Grove, W2..The stars are the rats not the art. Graffiti artist Banksy has taken a swipe at the establishment with asmall collection of modern masterpieces with the usual Banksy touch. Van gogh, flowers, without the flowers, Monet, with old shopping trolleys, Hooper with a brit tourist, Constable, Vetrianno all come under attack.

The floor is sectioned off and a fairly low perspex partition keeps the rats, live rats away from the visitors but,, there's a walk way into the rats arena and you can walk amongst the little fellas.

The place is popular and a good crowd was present, looking at both the rats and the painting.

The full title: An exhibition of remixed masterpieces vandalised oil painting and vermin, from Oct 14 to Ocr 24, 11am till 8 pm daily.

Well worth a look.

'Lowry and the Sea', Lowry Centre, Salford - a refreshing change from matchstick men. Bleak seascapes bring back childhood memories of holidays close to home, as does the Coast Exposed, same place - photographs of British coast lines by National Trust photographers.

had an amazing time at the Gelitin show at the Gagosian last night (see above post) was very very very strange indeed and I urge all to experience it it before the end of the week.

climbing furniture mountains, having wheeliebin saunas, dabbling my feet with strangers, having swigs of vodka with the artists, lots of nude people, a new toilet experience, a man wearing only stockings and suspenders, lots of cheap booze, giants and monsters.......

Diane Arbus, Revelations at the V&A.

The collection of prints, the rooms to illustrate the various stages of her Photgraphic career, together give a very in depth study of the lady and her work. The presentation and the quality, excellent.

I came away disturbed by her preoccupation with the people on the fringe of society. Almost seeking some form of answer for the contrast between the accepted norm and the collection of people that star in her collection.

Very talented lady but I would question her motivation.

 Cheers!

It's been getting very excitable write ups by that Waldemar Janusekzakexkes bloke - which have worked on me. I want to go and see big, old, dramatic paintings of babies being slaughtered and breasts popping out all over the place.

the massacre of the innocents is one of the most dynamic paintings i've seen..

the guy swinging that baby to dash it's brains out does seem almost to be moving.

i recommend the minimalist stuff they got out at the tate modern at the moment.. they have the bricks which are shit but the little placard beside it does have a good explanation of the point of them.. then there are some other good stuff in the same rooms including a great Jeff Koons.

went to see Paul McCarthy "Lala land parody paradise" at the whitechapel gallery, and also at a warehouse off brick lane

the gallery bit is great , the animatronic sleeping pig is a bit disturbing, especially when her anus expands and contracts

(i was a little transfixed at that)

lots of large models, liberal use cocks, and food...

then it's a 5 minute walk to this massive installation, in cheshire st, where the pirate stuff is, an enormous galleon, lots of video art, people screaming, being fucked with dismembered arms, it is quite a sight

went to see the rousseau exhibition at the tate modern today, I didn't realise previously who the fuck he was :o but when i got there, i realised i had seen a lot of his work before...

lots of idealised jungle paintings (he never left france apparently and based his jungle on botanical gardens and hot houses) his animals, especially monkeys and lions have a man-like appearance, which is a little freaky...

yeah, I'll second that. I went to this after the Southbank fireworks last weekend, and it really blew me away.
It's breathtaking. I almost cried.
