View Full Version : Do people dress up to go to the West End?
I think we're going to get tickets for Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre and go to the Wagamama's in Soho first. Trouble is I've yet to eat in Wagamama and not come out with dinner all down my front (it's the bamboo spoons I tell you). I'd also feel a bit of a tit going into Wagamama all dressed up.
It's a dilemma and no mistake ;) What's a girl to wear for a night in the West End?

Jeans, heels and a glam top? And erm, have a salad at Wagamama's. or go somewhere else.

My husband has never been and I promised I'd take him next time we're up. We're only there for a night so we have to cram it in (so to speak)
I like the idea for clothes though. Just have to buy a glam top. Do they do them in marquee sizes? :D
A bib? :p
I've considered it :)
It's all about chainmail in London now.
I was trying to get in a trendy bar the other night, forgot me chain mail. Bouncer was quite forthright, "no chainmail, you can fuck off". Wagamama's will be the same. No chainmail, no udon noodles.

Well, that's that then. It chafes my nipples. They can stuff their fucking noodles

'Empire' line tops are good and in fashion over the summer and now in all the sales. That is: tops which are gathered under the bust and flow down over the tum past the hips and bum like a short tunic. Fab, because they show off your bosom and mean you don't have to hold your tum in which is great if going to eat a meal out. Oasis and most of the high street stores have them with glittery bits or sequins around the neck line which is great because glam and flattering whilst meaning you don't need to bother with jewellery and also distracts from waist area ( which is in any case cunningly camouflaged under flowing fabric in a Greek goddess- like stylee).

But do they do them in a size 22? And online? They sound good but the most exciting shop we have down here is New Look :D

Probably. Try Evans. They have lots of nice stuff. And a sale.

The revolution starts here! Fuck your chainmail and your noodles! We will not stand for any of that bullshit ANY MORE. (I'm with you, sister!)

Here you go, lots of nice stuff (http://simplybeuk.drct2u.com/productwindow.jsp?LpgUid=10984471)
Evans stuff is cut really weird :( I've seen some really nice stuff there but it never quite fits and ends up being really uncomfortable. It's something about clothes for larger womenm - fuck knows what shape they think we are . I bought a really nice turquoise cord skirt in tesco the other day but the hips on it are like jodhpurs. Not at all flattering.
I got a nice wraparound top/dress thing in Etam in Truro for a tenner , maybe I'll look there.
Thanks BK :)

You don't fancy being my stylist do you? lol - I could reinvent myself :D
Does it really matter?
In Wagamama's you'll be surrounded by other people with barely and inch between you so nobody will notice what ur wearing.
In the theatre, everybody's gonna be watching at the stage anyway so again it doesn't really matter.

Of course it matters, there's the schmoozing in the bar, the interval drinks, the filing out at the end. You must be a bloke or you'd know that women spend most of the evening checking out what the other women are wearing :D

I'm not a woman and I check out the other men (I'm straight too) it is so important isn't it, to look right.
Anyway, my suggestion is to go down the road a little, towards Picadilly, onto Windmill St, where there is a really nice, and more authentic, japanese restaurant. Cheaper and better than Wags. I can't remember the name, but it is nearly opposite the old Windmill theater. Otherwise, go to Poon's in Leicester St (just off the Square) It is quite good, fairly cheap, and I've seen chinese people queuing to get in, which seems like a recommendation in itself.

But will I still end up with dinner down my front?
Thanks - I'll check them out :)

Or either of these are nice and would take you up to Christmas easily as they'll stay in style.

I think you would be equally inconspicious going to wagamama in black tie or to guys and dolls in a pair of jeans and tshirt; otoh, neither is exactly the occasion for either.

Cadmus, you're a genius! :D
But I don't think the shoes will suit me.

That's the other problem, I never go out anywhere that requires dressing up. Bailer twine and wellies is my usual attire. I s'pose I could buy it nearer the time, wear it once and send it back. But no, that would be dishonest :D

I hope Poons is still there, I used to take clients there, and we had some great times.
If you get food down yourself, and you are wearing one of those nice tops without sleeves, you could have a lot of fun getting the food licked off!

Wagamamas is exactly the sort of place you rush in and grab a bowl of noodles before a show; no-one will care what you wear there. hope you enjoy it; my sister said it was ace.

I like it and I know my husband would like it. I've got the cookbook but you can't get most of the ingredients in Cornwall :D Or did you mean the show?

Not your fault. Just a great place from my past that I hadn't been to for a long time. :(
Anyway, there are some great clothes in the posts here, all of which will look right for your purpose (I might get some for Mrs D). So relax and have a good night out.

Would this work with jeans and high heeled boots? I was thinking that it would look good on Mrs D, and she loves the high heeled boots thing. Is this from simplybe?
I feel that I should explain that Mrs D is feeling a bit off about how she looks, and I want to cheer her up.

Yes it would completely work with jeans and high heeled boots or strappy high heeled sandals. Check how she feels about her upper arms being on show, though. Some ladies prefer to cover up their arms in which case this tunic might be good

Hmm, hadn't thought about the arms thing. Will look at the options. (She is a 34E, what does that translate to for a top?)
added: How did I get to spending sunday night talking about womens clothes?

I'm really excited. I just hope the tickets don't run out before my hotel vouchers arrive. It's selling out pretty fast.

34E isn't big, well it is in cup size but not rib cage measurement. I'm 42C ish and I'm a size 22 in most tops atm. Best way is to sneak a look inside a label of one of her tops.

Spooky! We were just talking about big tits :D
Go for a rice dish from wagamamas. They're much much easier to eat without spilling on you. If I'm going somewhere after eating there, I usually go for the chicken katsu curry.

Avoid the noodles in soup dishes at wagamamas... you eat the meat, and the noodles and are left with about a litre of stock!
My friend said "I told you not to order that" which really helped.
When you coming up madz, time out are doing two mains for the price of one at wagamamas at the moment...
(btw, I thought jeans and heels were out this season? or is it just heels with 3/4 length jeans?)

It's also worth signing up to Wagamama's membership thingy on their website. They have never-ending 2-4-1 deals at various restaurants around London... I eat lunch there pretty often for next to nothing! (incidentally looking like shit.. no need to dress up for Wags!)
