It's Friday nite and I'm feelin' all rite, having shrugged off my fluey bug.

Or maybe I'll stay in and read my new Nicola Barker book.

NAAAAAHH!

So who's coming out to play in the lovely, lovely, aletastic Albert??

No not really. Beer much better, nice decking in the yard, that's it really. Oh and food, but only at lunchtimes. Still, overall, an improvement.

The Albert is a cunt of a pub and always will be. I know i haven't been there since it reopened as I was away from London for a couple of weeks. I may pop in to see if it has changed for the better but I wont hold my breath last time I was in there it was full of spoilt little rich kids. I hear that they sell real ale now but its all Greene King mouthwash, dont be fooled if they start selling old speckled hen or ruddles as a "guest" ale as they are brewed by Greene King both shadows of their former selves till GK took over their breweries their tour of destruction continues with the acquisition of Ridleys which I think they have now closed and Belhaven which I dont see them keeping open.

A pint of 80/ brewed in Bury St Edmunds anyone?

I think when a pub puts in for a refit Lambeth are pretty keen on getting disabled access and toilets put in. In fact they seem to mandate it as the Windmill was told to do it 18 months ago. A good thing all round.

The expression "cunt of a pub" for those not in the know is West of Scotland Vernacular for a pub which isn't particularly good.

With regard to my opinions about the Albert and The Goose are based on encounterswith unpleasant characters in those establishments who fit the descriptions outlined earlier.

If you must know my favourite pubs are the priory arms, the surprise, the landor the trinity and the beehive. I also like a number of pubs outside Brixton including the Market Porter, the Royal Oak, The Tabard, The Magpie & Crown & the Wenlock Arms all of which have a better choice of ales from independent micro brewers than the Albert.

The landor isin't that bad - they always have 2 ales and 2 guests on beside the american bottled beer. Very good, cheap food too.

Quite why they have a fucking canoe nailed to the ceiling though, is a question for a greater mind than mine.

I think it is the case that the clientele of the Albert is, generally speaking, younger and more affluent than say the customers in the Beehive/Goose. The latter two pubs definitely more accurately reflect the diversity of Brixton than does the Albert.

Not sure if that makes it 'cunt of a pub' or not or that it even matters.

I've been in all three and would/will again.

pretty impressed with the refurb overall, although the men's toilets were in a right old state last night. no lock on the cubicle - after a couple of weeks? amazing - and the urinal was filled to big chill-style trough proportions. it was a great night and very busy, so i'm sure that didn't help, but would be nice if that was sorted out.

shame the shelf in the garden had to go. i liked the shelf

but in general...a success!

I finally got to the Albert with Xanadu and alien nation at about 10pm, but there was already a one-in/one-out policy in operation on the door. We went to Harlem for a while instead before returning, but unfortunately there was still a massive queue (and we were rather knackered) so in the end we gave it a miss. :( Shame, as it sounded good...

I ended up in the Trinity last Friday as me and Fenian couldnt get into the Albert due to it being full :( .Havent been in the Trinity for a while.I felt out of place there.Still seems full of the Rugby/Cricket crowd etc to me.

I wouldnt say the Albert is full of little rich kids myself.Managed to get into Albert late (thanks to IS)and it was the mixed crowd of people I expect there.Not-thank god-going on about mortages.

I think the Albert is better now its been refitted. The decking at the back is an improvement.I was wrong about the front decking-its seems to have worked out and keeps the dealers away.

Are you referring to the Priory? if that is the case in the last 31/2 years probably at least once or twice a week although I do drink all over London.

I don't think how many events a pub has is necessarily a measure of how good the pub is but they do have a quiz every Sunday and occasional free barbecues a German beer festival every October.

With reference to the atmosphere being laid back in the priory it was in reference to changes in management in the pub and not making a comparison with the Albert.

They also have Harveys Bitter in the Priory as a "house" bitter.
