After a few months of thinking it through, I've decided to move from my native Essex to the big bad city! I've chosen Brixton for a number of reasons. It's one of the remaining areas of London that seems to still have a working class community spirit. I like the idea of being able to shop in independent shops rather than big chain supermarkets as well as it being nearer to work.

I found the thread on the butchers very informative. Just a couple of questions really, where is the best Bakers? and, is there a good fishmongers in Brixton? Im very partial to seafood :D

There is more fish than you could know ever possibly what to do with on Atlantic Road. I'm completely ignorant about local bakers though.

Anyway, welcome to the neighbourhood and see you in the Albert soon! You'll never leave...

Bakers....

Brixton Wholefoods on Atlantic Road does bread from the Old Post Office Bakery on Landor Road (between Brixton and Clapham North). Rosies Deli in the market does expensive organic bread. The Portuguese butcher on Atlantic Road does good white bread. There is a bakery on Half Moon Lane in Herne Hill which is excellent, especially for cakes....
