I is coming London way for a week "holiday" in October, but will be taking my spare-time hobby with me - as a wannabe music journo I would love nothing better to find some little pub or venue roundabout with local bands/unsigned bands to write about. If there's any really good place (or for that matter some really awful bands you know about, nothing better sometimes than writing critically =) ) please advise :)
