View Full Version : Quiet places in Brixton for a chat and a coffee...
I was wondering if anyone can recomend a good coffee shop in Brixton thats relatively quiet.
we were planning on doing a recording tonite in the effra's garden, but with the rain thats been ixnayed. And it would be good to find somewhere for recordings other than a pub.
So are there any recomendations? the criteria would be low background noise, indoors, and open late(ish). say till 9pm.
thanks.

Off the top of my head Mango Landin' I reckon. It's spacious and quieter than the Lounge. It's a pub but does coffee and food.
never heard of that one. (though im attrocious with names, i usually go by the colour of the building or some esoteric feature no one else would notice. which leads in hour long arguements about which shop/pub/coffee place is better, when we are both talking about the same place.:o )
where is Mango landin?

Go up St Matthews Road (parallel and between Brixton Hill and Effra Road) It's at the top on the corner with Brixton Water Lane

It used to be Babuschka but the new owners aren't crap at all. Really lovely place.

The problem with Mango Landin' is that they have live music/tango classes/chess clubs etc almost every night and when they don't there's almost always someone DJ-ing
They always have an answerphone message with what's on this week on 020 7737 3044 and having just called, it seems tonight is ok - at least for bands etc!! :D

Must be a conspiracy.... :D
TBH.. I think they may have stopped the chess league thing... I haven't seen it mentioned recently..
nothing on in the ritzy cafe tonight (no music / dj etc) and the films are quite quiet at the moment so should be quite a silent one...

The mango does sound good, but as we are meeting some people in the Effra i think we will try the Ritzy this evening (and then the mango if thats too noisy) thanks very much.
incidentally if anyone is free tonite and would fancy joining in on an educational panel discussion (or would like a question or two raised) you would be more than welcome (and their would even be the possibility of a pint or cofee)

Sadly no. I have to be up at 4:30 am tomorrow to get to France...have a great one though.
i thought about the lounge, but the low ceilings do make the sound travel a fair bit. so their is a bit too much background noise for a recording. which is a shame as it is otherwise ideal. and the fruit juices are fantastic.
Actually I think The Lounge might be closed this week for holidays....
