Now I don't want to whinge but has anyone noticed an increase of stupidly quick gangs of motorbikes doing wheelies the length of brixton hill? Fuck me that’s surely a recipe for disaster. The hill is bad enough with thousands of busses, non-stop heavy traffic, confused emergency vehicles blapping up and down, pedestrians trying to cross everywhere and the BadBoy scootercrew. The last thing it needs is these attempts at the land speed record on one wheel with two fingers up to the speed cameras.

I'm not anti bike but it worries me seeing people riding like that where there are so many other dangers. I've had some nasty experiences with roads and traffic so I’m probably overreacting, but it doesn’t seem too good to me.

I saw the aftermath and assumed it was just a case of a truck turning left on a bike.

Brixton Hill would have to compete with Railton Road as the convenient venue for any land speed record breaking attempts, closely followed by Kellett Road which has the added attraction of the Effra as a pit stop for nervously drained drivers. Yes, many's the time I've seen drivers refuelling there. :(

They're all practice for when they graduate to a run with a proper grandstand. Off the lights at the end of CHL, past the front of Tate Gardens- all those girls!!- and away alongside St Matts. Sadly neither dominoes players nor the Advisory Group take much notice but that just gives an incentive to do it louder & faster...

There's teenage lads with scooters up and down Ferndale Rd too. They sound like farting wasps, very irritating!

On a related theme, I have to admit to being "concerned of Brixton" when it comes to teenage tearaways on mini-motorbikes. I don't understand how they're getting away with it, for a start. The bloody things are illegal, and they tear about on them with no regard for the safety of others, or themselves. They're not even wearing helmets, ffs. Why don't the police stop them and confiscate the bloody things?

we had a kid on a scooter hit by a car whilst on the wrong side of the rd yesterday (the scooter not the car), sadly he didnt see the need to wear any protective clothing (a t-shirt might have been a good idea) and suffered the consequences.

Without sounding too horrible, let them carry on if they aren't wearing helmets. Stupid stunts+no crash helemet = natural selection.

They will soon wipe themselves out.

Fine if it's a low-powered scooter, but if it's a 500cc monster that hits you doing a stupid stunt it's not just the rider who's going to get hurt...

I agree about Kellett road, there are a lot of bikes going very fast round there ATM and it's bloody dangerous when it's outside your front door. Quite why the police haven't noticed this nice little earning potential and started laying speed traps is beyond me.

It's also a poor reflection on bikes and bikers as a whole, and does nothing for the image of most perfectly sensible, law-abiding riders.

If its 500cc then it isn't a Monster. They came in 600s and 900s :p

Clapham Common is also a popular haunt for these needle-dicks. Have seen plenty of bikers doing wheelies up & down there, complete with Old Bill in BMWs in pursuit on a couple of Sundays this summer... twats.
