View Full Version : Off to Denmark...
Hey
I'm off to Denmark in the next few days for a friends wedding. Never been that way before, any suggestions?
How's the public transport? as i'm flying to the wrong side of the country so i'm using the trains to get to the little town i'm off to.
Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

Where are you flying to and where is this wedding?
The trains are good but expensive but no more expensive than the uk.
If you have a motorcyle licence and a spare day or two you could try hiring a Nimbus motorcycle.
Wedding, is that code for the football?! ;)

Is it a Danish friend or an English one ? I went to a Danish wedding a few years ago and it lasted from lunchtime through til 6 am the following morning , every guest made some sort of speech or other , and there were a few weird local traditions , the bride had to stitch up the grooms socks to prove she was a worthy wife !! It was one of the best and certanly one of the most drunken weddings I have ever attended.
The Danes are also very proud of theur Hot Dogs so much so that a van turned up at 4.30 am , perfect timing for the munchies
I'm flying from Stanstead to Aarhus, we've got the route sorted to Thisted where my friend's fiancee is from. i was just wondering what sort of prices and so on. if they're similar to the UK it'll be fine.
I hope the wedding is a very drunken affair, i'm not going all that way just to be bored :D
Thanks for the replies guys!

Here's the tranport from Aarhus to Thisted but it's gunna take you forever to get there! (http://www.dsb.dk/Rejseplan/bin/query.exe/en?L=vs_dsb&seqnr=5&ident=fr.0290765.1124221069&ml=m&OK#focus)
..and here you can see you have to travel across country (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=950000.84719723&Y=7700000.20817182&width=500&height=300&gride=967321.84719723&gridn=7714963.20817182&srec=0&coordsys=mercator&db=DK&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=thisted&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&zm=1&scale=4000000)
Be warned you are heading into proper countryside!
Also expect lots of singing at the wedding, lots :D
Aarhus to Thisted should be about 3 and a bit hours if we (me and my two friends) get on the right train. And we've been warned that Thisted isn't exactly a metropolis but I reckon we'll be too tired to party anyway. I forgot to mention we're travelling from North Yorkshire anyway. Planning on leaving Leeds at 1800 on wednesday (tomorrow) and get to Thisted around 1630 on Thursday.....fun fun.
I've heard that most Danish people speak English does anyone know how true that is as i don't have any Danish and i don't want to make a fool of myself!

Anybody under the age of 45 should speak good enough English.

That doesn't seem to apply to English people. ;)

I was there last year with the sprogs, but only in and around Copenhagen. We got a cheaper hotel outside the city and used the commuter trains: frequent, reliable, clean. Don't remember them as expensive either. Also used the train to visit the port where they'd raised the sunken Viking longboats - again, it was good.
I don't supposed you could bring me back some Tuborg? Much nicer than Carlsberg but they don't sell it here.
Hi all, just thought I'd let you know that i got there and back and had a fantastic time. If you ever get chance to go to a Danish wedding you simply have to, absolutely crazy!

Sorry, I'd already left by the time you'd posted, but if it makes you feel any better I didn't bring any home for myself either. If you ever go again to the north of the country (which I'd recommend, beautiful scenery and really friendly people) see if you can get hold of some Thy beer, very local to the town I stayed in, and really much nicer than Carlsberg!!
Thanks again for all the tips, nice to know people will help someone they don't even know!
