Is this "one London" campaign - involving stickers, slogans in the street and so-on:
1 Jingoistic pomp that will conveniently serve to make politicians and establishment figures look good.
OR:
2 A great way of bringing Londoners together at a time of crises.
And will it be considered heresy to criticise it from the Left/Anarchist angle?
It's neither, it's rubbish but not jingoistic in the slightest.
The poll's crap too :p
I don't live in London, so there.

Can't find a photo of the actual ads being used 'for real' as it were (they're mostly on tube platforms funnily enough!) but there are some road signs with them and down Bishopsgate (the road in the City which goes past Bishopsgate) they've got signs hanging off the streetlamps.

yeah, I don't find it particularly offensive, but then I don't imagine for a moment that it will be effective - at doing whatever its meant to do. just a waste of money then.

but there is more than one london!
for example. there's london, ontario - which also has a river called the thames.
and even if yr talking about this london, people's experiences of the city vary so greatly it's fucking fuckwitted to suggest that everyone feels the same about something.
i quite liike the fontThe "O"'s look too small! That's pretty basic stuff they've screwed up IMHO.
This is the first I've heard of it. Has it only just been launched?

NIce idea, nice font and ties in with the overall 'mayoroflondon' branding.
INteresting response to the bombings - until I'd seen that link I had no idea that there was an actual campaign behind it - I just thought it was another GLA poster campaign.
iIngoistic? How is pointing out that 7 million people living in London jingoistic? Or a call for unity in a city which has representatives from every country on the planet living in it, jingoistic?
Must make a note - calls for community solidarity and unity now considered 'jingoistic'/

I agree its not particularly jingoistic, but what will it *achieve*? I mean, who's going to have their minds changed by something like this?
i don't think it will make anyone look good and i can't say i've seen much of it, so i reckon it's just a waste of £.

Dunno, guess it depends on how you see London. For me the very notion that 7 million people of massively diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds get on in about what, 20 square miles of land is pretty miraculous as it is!
But yeah, doubt it's going to suddenly make anyone jump up and start waving their hands or something.
I do remember seeing a guy at Fruitstock wearing the T-shirt 'We are not afraid' in an LU logo and all of us thought 'Tosser'

Even for you this is really poorly researched rnb - it's got nothing to do with going out and working harder or spending more.
It's really funny that whenever a UK politician tries to run a campaign even remotely connected to the idea of a community he's shot down for it, and whenever such a thing is done in Europe or the US the population of those cities are usually quite pleased about it.

London isn't a community... the idea's preposterous... made up of communities obviously... another nauseating attempt to foister an identity on a people or a place... if anybody cared...

Funny how peopel describe themselves as 'Londoners' then isn't it, if London isn't a community.

Isn't it just like describing yourself as English or British? Its nothing to do with community.

:rolleyes:I think that this is rather being put forward as choice time. Unity with the people other people who want to go on living in London or unity with people who wouldn't and would like to stop living in London with extreme prejudice, your choice.
I object to what I see as Labour Party central office branding (If the brand really does belong to the Mayoral position we will see if it changes with a change or Mayor and if memory servers me correctly Ken used it on election posters last time – will have to check.) being disseminated by associated it with the terrorist attacks on London.

Whats a community then? Always a bit suspicicious of amyone who tries to speak for a community myself apart from properly elected politicians that is who are usually better than self selected "community acivists"

Yup.
Thanks for that Kam - thought I was going mad for a second.
Works on the same visual conceit as Mayor of London posters but this is a Ken thing, not a nu-Lab thing.
Aha! I have seen those about! I thought they were about the lottery or something! :o

The ones near me also have the EDF logo on them - I thought they were saying that 7 million of us get our electricity from them in a '7 million people can't be wrong' fashion. :o
Perhaps the campaign isn't as clear as they'd hoped ...
Clear as mud to me. Did they use a "professional" ad agency? Should be sacked if they did, IMHO.

Advertising campaign launched
London advertising and media owners have come together to provide a £1million '7 million Londoners, One London' campaign for free.
Clear Channel, Adshel, Maidens, Viacom, Bay Media, Primesight, Pawson Media, Odessa and Van Wagner have all contributed to the Mayor's campaign, which underlines the way that Londoners have united since the terrorist bomb attacks on the capital.
London local papers also joined in to promote the campaign, which began on Monday 1 August. And EDF Energy, London’s energy provider and first Premier Partner of the London 2012 bid, promoted the campaign using lamppost banners across Central London.
Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone thanked all those involved in the campaign: 'Londoners have shown that they will not be divided by the acts of terrorists. Contributions like this demonstrate what Londoners can do when we all work together for a united stronger London.'
Vincent de Rivaz, EDF Energy's Chief Executive said: 'London's diversity is a real strength and was clearly a significant factor in our recent success with the London 2012 bid. I am delighted to support this campaign which shows we stand united in difficult times as well as in celebration.'
The advertising agency Nitro originated the 'One London' poster. Bruce Crouch, Creative Director at Nitro, said: 'We just wanted to do something positive in the wake of the bombings. We hope the campaign makes a contribution to helping encourage Londoners' unity and resolve.'
Oliver Larholt of Bay Media, the company responsible for decorating many of the streets of London for the Olympic Bid, said: 'Everywhere they look the message is clear, we’re shouting it from the lampposts, we’re lining our streets with the same united message; whether we’re celebrating the Olympics or warning off our enemy – we're 1 London.'

Perhaps they should promote it outside the pages of Campaign ...
I assume that the advertisers are giving their help for free, hence the shite nature of the campaign.
just checked out their logo -

tbh it all looks and sounds like something a 16 year old would come up with in an hour-long business studies AS-level class ...

The "O"'s look too small! That's pretty basic stuff they've screwed up IMHO.
From memory, it's done right on the 16-sheet posters; it's only the graphic on the website that's wrong.

Not yet...
Ken Livingstone, London's mayor, is preparing a multimillion pound effort to lure shoppers and diners back to central London after retail sales had a record drop following the terrorist attacks in July.
