I might try and do this before the summer is out. Anyone else done it? Is it tough-going?

Loads of folk do it for charity so it can't be that bad. It's grim if the weather is crap.
Are you a walker? I reckon anything like that depends on your level of fitness.
Hubby is going to look out some info, more later.

How long do you reckon it will take?

About a week, from what I've read/been told so far.
I did acouple sections of it years ago.
I don't think its too difficult as its mainly valley walking.. i.e. not so many big climbs up hills.

It's reasonably levelish and 97 miles, so you should do it in three days top. Do you get a certificate?

I'm in no rush ;)
Don't think you get a certificate, not that bothered though.
As we speak my mum and some of her pals are doing it, which tells you everything you need to know

My feet/knees are in an awfy state, so I'm gonna leave this to next year.

Should take you about a week to 10 days dependent on how fast and far you want to walk each day.
I have walked all the way up loch lomond (which is one of th ebest sections and it took me a day and a half (at about 18miles per day)
One thing i would advise is that you climb ben Lomond on the way!
it is only a small diversion of the west highland way and gives you some of the best views in that part of the country. On a good day you can see for 50miles either way!
I walked/climbed it two weekends ago and it took me about 4hrs up and down (14 miles up and down). The path is well defined and there are always people around so you shouldn't get lonely.
it will be well worth it, trust me!
good luck

Yeah if youv'e got a rocket up your arse and your one e's and whizz! :D
Typically about 15-20 miles a day is what most people can manage, plus you want to enjoy the views so don't rush it.

IIRC, there is only one reasonably hard section & that is the descent off Rannoch Moor, although it is not hard in the mountaneering sense, some care is needed amongst the rocky bits. Rannoch itself & a couple of other sections can be a bit remote & exposed so the normal precautions for Scottish uplands should of course be taken

I was in the Ben Nevis hotel last night having a couple of beers, this bloke was at the bar and he mentioned that he'd just finished the WHW. I asked him if he enjoyed it and he said "NO"!!. Poor fucker could hardly walk  :D But there were others there, of all ages, and they seemed fine and healthy, forgot to ask them how long it took them, will ask next time I'm there :)
