We've been offered a stall at Lambeth Archives Open Day on Saturday 24th Sept.

Can't think what to do with it myself, but I thought I'd put the word out and see if anyone's got any sensible ideas and/or would like to get involved to do, err, something.

I think the "then and now" pics are among the best parts of the site. Will they lend you a PC to show them on - printing out web sites does seem a little curious?

That's a good idea. Then & Now is probably why they asked us in the first place.

A massive tin of hobnobs?

Photos would certainly be a good attraction.

We could have an Urban75 Historical Re-enactment Society, where we dress up and re-play old board wars.

print out the pages you've done about abandoned stations in london, esp places like e brixton. there's a ton of stuff in various forums you could use as the basis of some local history pages you could show off at the open day.

also you can show off u75 as a future example of community (as long as you miss off the various spats, if possible) and an example of a community archive.

There's loads of things you could do.. but it depends on whether you want to actively promote U75 in order to get more members... ?

LOL!

There'd be tears before bedtime, though...

Did this ever get sorted

This year's event sounds a weird mixture, even without an Urban75 stall...

Lambeth Childhoods- Archives Open Day

The history of childhood in Lambeth will be the theme of this year's Lambeth archives open day on Saturday 24 September 2005. The day will explore subjects as diverse as infant mortality, child travellers, girls' education, play, work and apprenticeships.

Activities for children on the day will include a cinema showing films made by local children, dressing up, and a guided tour of the digital archive www.lambethlandmark.com. They can also experience lessons in a Victorian classroom and bookmark making.

For adults, there will be a programme of talks, a family history help desk and archives staff on hand to answer questions about local and family history and the Archives Service.

Local societies and organisations will run stalls. There will be exhibitions tied to some of the talks, a sale of local history publications and hot and cold refreshments.

The day's activities take place at Lambeth Archives, 52 Knatchbull Road, SE5 9QY.

Morning sessions will cover "Orphans of the Raj- in Streatham" by Vyvyen Brendon, "Educating Vera-the education of girls in Lambeth" by Anne Ward and "The orphaned, abandoned and destitute-how did they survive?" by Sheila Gallagher.

After lunch, the subjects will be "Maternity, milk and measles- 150 years of child mortality and public health in Lambeth " by Len Reilly, "So many children poor, William Blake's vision of childhood in Lambeth in the 1790s" by Jon Newman and "Playtime- a short history of play in Lambeth" by Anna Robinson.

I had a vauge idea once to try and make a program that generated visuals based on what was going on on a live forum. (Not that that helps for now :o .)
