Possibly...
411 Coldharbour Lane opens on Thursday 7 July. It was closed down by police 2004 after evidence it was operating as a drugs den. It has lain empty since the lease came up for sale recently.

Brixton Borough Police seized the opportunity to make it a new heart for the community.

It offers two meeting rooms for community use, and will act as headquarters for the Coldharbour Safer Neighbourhoods team plus the Coldharbour Business Forum.

To celebrate this milestone in the regeneration of Brixton, the road will be closed off for a couple of hours on launch day; local people will lend a carnival atmosphere to proceedings with a steel band and food stalls and community leaders will pay tribute to the project.

They include Sir Ian Blair (Metropolitan Police Commissioner), Lee Jasper (Greater London Assembly), Ros Griffiths (director Employment Café Ltd, Coldharbour Lane) and Lloyd Leon, the first black mayor of Lambeth.

the new place is called
'The Beat' Soon to be known as The Bill to all and sundry, I don't doubt. Among other, far less polite epithets.

headquarters for the Coldharbour Safer Neighbourhoods team plus the Coldharbour Business Forum.

What's a "business forum" doing with a meeting in a cop shop?
Is it one of those "let's make sure the police keep our tills ringing" kind of groups that ban hoodies etc?

Was Coldharbour graced with Lee's presence at the rescheduled event?

Police and community safety presence to make Coldharbour safer
28 July 2005

The local community are invited to a launch event on Monday 1 August from 3:30 - 5:30pm when the Metropolitan Police Acting [sic] Commissioner Paul Stephenson and local community representatives will be present to officially open a new neighbourhood policing and community resource centre at 411 Coldharbour Lane.

Following a police operation in 2004 the police and the local authority have worked together to establish a base in this road for the community.

The new office will include a front desk and accommodation for the Coldharbour Safer Neighbourhood Team. Council Community Safety Officers plan to hold surgeries for residents at this venue and community meetings could be accommodated.

At the launch Information about the services and refreshments, supplied by 10 restauranteurs in Coldharbour Lane will be available. Local community members and Acting Commissioner Stephenson will be speaking.

Councillor Darren Sanders said “The opening of this building shows yet again the progress Lambeth Council and its partners are making towards stamping out crime in the Borough. I look forward to it serving the people of Brixton for years to come.”

Superintendent David Zinzan said “The Metropolitan Police have take out a 10 year lease on 411 Coldharbour Lane and we are here for the long haul. This is the start of reclaiming an area traditionally associated with drug related criminality.”

Well the crackheads do cause problems for local businesses with shoplifting, hassling customers etc. The input on the business forum is as likely to be little shops, in fact I don't think the big boys (Woolies, Tescos etc) have much input at all.

I cycled past, stopped for a bit, and thought it was quite funny. That sound system was FAT though!

However, you can guess exactly what would happen if I started up my sound system in the middle of the street......
