I am thinking of going to Paris soon - I would like some tips on where the anarchists hang out - are there social centres? Bookshops? bars?
Also I am not sectarian - I know there are a lot of ageing Italian exiles in paris so I presume there are autonomist Marxist haunts too, but any thinking Marxists will do...
And - what are the must see places? Bastille? Sorbonne? People/Graves/cemetary? etc...
Where is Oscar Wilde buried? I seem to remember it was Paris (though i could be badly wrong on this one)....

WHy do you need to know about Ya Basta? I normally operate on a need to know basis. :D
Good point about Makno tho' - he did die in Paris around 1930 didn't he...
Paris is relatively quiet during August as many people and businesses are on holiday, presumably including the anarchists :D

Skanky hippy ones tend to hang around the bastille, drinking cider & comparing dogs on strings...
as moose said it's fucking quiet now, all the parisians leave except the really fucked up ones, leaving us students & tourists. It's nice & hot though. If you come before the 21st you'll catch the end of Paris Plage which is fun.
Drop me a pm if you do & i'll show you nice cheap bars etc

Cheap bars? Where? When? How?
I did quite like the Bar des Famillies near Bastille. That was 20 francs a pint when I went.
The pricing systems in french bars generally drove me spare though, all that "2 quid before 7 if you're standing up, 3 quid after, 9 million pounds if you're sitting down after 9" a pint bollocks
Cheap bars? Where? When? How?
Just lookout for where the builders ect go for lunch. There is always a cheap bar/café/restaurant in any town or city in France. (The French like to keep them to themselves though)
Beer is comparitively expensive in a bar in France anyway. Drink rouge ordinaire and you can get ratarsed pissed on 5 euros, if you find the bar where all the geriatric dominoes players go in the afternoon.

you won't need to speak french in Paris in August. all the locals have fucked off to the beach and have been replaced by fat americans and what have you. the street corners bakeries will still be opened on a rota system, by law, so you won't starve. as for anarchists, try eastern Paris. and avoid big bars, go to local ones where the house wine is a euro a glass. don't drink too much...
