View Full Version : travelling from dundee to glasgow
i was planning to go to dundee for the first time in about a decade this sat for an all day hiphop thing, but have really been struggling to find any transport back on a sunday night after about 8 or 9. i've checked scotrail, citylink and megabus. anyone from up that way know if theres any way of gettin back to glasgow after 1030 or so, or even preferrably at about midnight or after? do any companies do night busses?

Forget it, East Coast public transport shuts-down after @9-10 PM most nights & even earlier at weekends.
The main bus companies are Stagecoast & First - Neither have much commitment to public service & in Aberdeen anyway, First refuse to run night buses because "too many people might use them"

Now you know why I'm not very keen on meets being in Glasgow! :p
Pogofish is right, the transport system is crap.
Would you be able to go from Dundee to Edinburgh, then Glasgow any easier/later?
Or stay in Dundee overnight and travel early on Monday morning?

Eh ... that has to be the most ass-backwards thinking ever.
So much for privatisation, and the new era of choice :(
A friend once muttered something about passenger coaches on mail trains at silly times being your only option, but there aren't any mail trains anymore so :(

Don't start me on those bright-sparks at the bus companies & the host of service-killing petty rules practices & rip-off fares!
IIRC, the "milk train" to Glasgow still runs - although how long since it last carried milk, I don't know? From Dundee, it would be @3-4am

... at which time, Dundee station would be shut, so you couldn't get on it anyway. Unless you tried jumping on it while it was moving (I do not recommend this AT ALL :o)
