I was in a bookshop in London the other day (i think it was Borders or some other big chain store type one... i didn't actually buy anything) and there was an album on which appeared to be a cover album by one band or singer, with songs including "Love Will Tear Us Apart" (New Order, or was it Joy Division?) and "Guns Of Brixton" (The Clash, obviously), covered in a strange sort of acoustic loungey style, by a female (possibly US/Canadian accent) singer with a very "lazy", quite monotone voice...

it was very odd and made me burst out laughing when i realised it was "Guns of Brixton"... i didn't recognise the other song(s) after that... who/what was it?

Nouvelle Vague?

Did it have the cure, depeche mode and did she say Maria wrong like she never heard the sing in the first place?

dunno, the only cover of "guns of brixton" i know is by the blaggers, and that's quite obviously not the one you have there......maybe it's Celine Dion? :)

I have it but its in the car and can't quite remember name. It's a double album by some dj's with lots of fab weirdness mashes/covers. I wil let you know when can be arsed to go to car and put clothes on (hmm, wrong order) unless someone beats me to it.

It's definitely Nouvelle Vague (http://www.discogs.com/release/307655), though I think cyberfairy is referring to How To Kill The DJ part 2 (http://www.discogs.com/release/323830), cos it has Guns Of Brixton on it too as well as the 'mash-ups' she is referring to.

I've heard it and I like it. And yes I believe the producers got singers to do songs they'd never heard before.

I hope they don't do a reggae version, that'd never work :p
