Hi peeps,

We're currently looking for the cheapest flights into and out of India. We plan to leave in October and go for 6 months. We're going to fly into Delhi and will probably fly out of Chennai (Madras).

Our question is this:

Is is cheaper to get a one way flight to Delhi and a return flight purchased from within India for when ever and where ever we plan to leave from? Or better to get return tickets from the UK before hand?

Is it a problem entering India with only a one-way ticket? We both have British passports...

Anyone know of any special deals at the moment?

What of internal flights? Cheap and safe?

Cheers

I'll got read the other threads on India and hope to not find the exact same topic!

I've entered India twice, once by land and once by air and they never checked whether I had any onward ticket, or any proof of funds. This was over 5 years ago, and I turned up at customs looking smart (always helps.) Dunno about ticket prices, I'm afraid.

I had a one way ticket there & bought one internally to leave. Probably about the same price as a return all in all & it was a hell of a lot more convenient - I didn't end up at all where I thought I would be.

No one asked me for any proof of onward travel & I looked skanky :D

It was when a local bloke came up to me, spat at my feet and called me a dirty camel that I knew it was time to clean my act up!

I got the flight from (mc's suggestion)

www.justtheticket.com

I'm getting some good prices from these guys, unlike the just the ticket which is retricted to UK outward only, these people allow any airport to any airport. Bangkok outfit I think, recommended on www.thaivisa.com's forums.

There are a new set of cheap airlines just started operating for internal India. Some are offering 1rs flight on every plane. Kingfisher is one, cant see the 1rs on that, but seems cheap. www.flykingfisher.com Dunno if that inspires confidence, just have to hope the pilots don't get free beer. They only employ models for their hostesses though! They advertise that fact on the TV.

Ah, nice one guys, Just checking those sites now!

Poi E, I'm in Brighton, give us a call if you're in the area. It's lovely down here when the sun shines. Can't beat a NZ beach thou!

Guess I'll be checking out a few Indian ones soon enough ;)

Not much of use on those sites I'm afraid. Think I'll try a local travel agency called AOSSA which I've heard good reports about.

cheers for the tips guys

Just bought flights to India from STA...

Really good value, £422 including tax for a 6 month return from London Heathrow to Delhi via Mumbai and out of Chenai vai Mumbai. With one free change on the return leg of the flight!

They came in about £100 cheaper than other competition and much more from the also rans!

STA's travel insurance is cheap too and their sales folk know what they're talking about!

So anyone who is planning a trip to India, check them out!

Sweet!

couple of years ago I managed to get some last minute deal through Syrian Arab Airlines flying into Dehli and out of Mumbai for £350. Only problems is that you have to remember to reconfirm your departure flights by phone, doing it in person is not the same thing  apparently.

I've never been asked for proof of onward travel either.

Aeroflot, don't go with these as you will most probably have to do a 12 hour stint at moscow airport which isn't fun .....but the beer was cheap.

there are cheap flights with turkmenistan airlines but apparantly it's hellish.

Moscow SVO doesn't have cheap beers, it's just a dump.
