"So, I presume you're a nice normal law abiding citizen, Mr Version?"
"Of course, Officer. Well, apart from the Attempted Murder of a serving Police Officer last year, but, heh, it was all a misunderstanding. He was a lying cunt.
"Cup of tea while you wait?"

sorry, folks. was twatted when i posted that on Friday..
so in short: got a call from my housemate friday evening when Pie Eye and i were heading back to mine to get some kit to go away for the weekend. my housemate told me the building was crawling with cops, press, hardcore secret service types and so it proved when we got there. they wouldn't let us in, so we decamped to the pub round the corner. eventually (several pints later ;) ) i came back and insisted i be allowed in because i was going away. so after much tutting and prevaricating, they said i could go in for just 5 minutes, but no longer. so i stagger round trying to pack with a cop - possibly armed - at the door rushing me. (i did manage to post though..)...
my flatmates didn't get in for hours after that. and i'm now back and the place is STILL crawling with cops: i have to be signed in and out of my own fucking house, the cops outside my door are ignorant cunts. the press have backed off (which is a shame because i'd rehearsed my "he was dead noisy, i couldn't hear myself THINK for all the bomb-making" speech).
details are sketchy, but at least two people were nicked on Friday from the flat, one of whom i know to nod at. the flat seems to have been some sort of cell/meeting point, and we've been under surveillance for fucking weeks. there were snipers trained on my fucking house on Thursday and Friday, and we think our phones are tapped (also my housemates went to Brighton on Saturday and when they came back on Sunday the cop said "hello - nice weekend in Brighton was it?")
not very fucking nice at all. like my housemate said, he's a fairly swarthy bloke - as Asian looking as the poor Brazilian bloke - so it could have been him, for fuck's sake..
so there ya go..
having said that, it's still better than Bournemouth.
bloody ell, mental tales u can tell
do an american style re-enactment movie thingy i reckon
so you weren't in danger of being accidentally blowed to bits at any time?

and this is exactly the sort of treatment that will push moderates into the arms of extremists. The Terrorism Act which allows, encourages, these draconian measures is going to be the Islamofascists greatest recruiting sergeant.
The last few days all I've seen is hordes of young asian and black men being stopped and searched by old bill. It's almost as if this is the excuse they've been waiting for to return to the bad old days of sus.
I know we live in difficult times, but holding an innocent man in prison for 12 days is destroying the very civil liberties they claim to be defending and is doing the terrorists's jobs for them by altering our society beyond recognition.

May have been in paper for a while, until could arrange other proper clothes. The bucket would not be a ... er ... bucket. It may be a rather unattractive looking WC with little privacy. Maybe the Old Bill should run tours ...

20 people currently detained as a consequence of the bombings.

How many have been arrested and released? Must be at least double that.

trés droll.
dick.
anyway, my flatmate's spoken to the mother of the house (the mother of the woman the suspect was married to or involved with, had a kid with) and apparently he was, in her terms, a useless stupid twat who never had a job or lifted a finger. she even thinks he did it to piss her off cos she moaned at him so much.
I think we're going to find that this is the story for most of these bombers. Not to jump to conclusions or anything, but the mugshots of most of them seemed to exude "loser" to me, at least. Freedom fighters? Ha!

details are sketchy, but at least two people were nicked on Friday from the flat, one of whom i know to nod at. the flat seems to have been some sort of cell/meeting point, and we've been under surveillance for fucking weeks.
Dubversion - did you really mean that? That the flat had been under observation for weeks? Since, when would that be? Around the 7th July? or before? Hmm, interesting.
thanks, scalyboy
PS Hope this hasn't freaked you out too much! I know it would me...

according to one of the cops, and conversations overheard by my flatmate, at LEAST since the first spate of bombs but possibly before.

My dad was held in Paddington Green for a week, in the late 70s, under the Terrorism Act, for being Irish....
He asked his mates to bring in some books to pass the time and nearly fell off his chair when they brought him "My Fight For Irish Freedom" :D

Hmmm, very odd. Even if the surveillance began only after the 7th, that's still interesting, given that the offical line we are getting in the press is that police are still probing whether there were any links between the Leeds and the London groups. Latest I saw today was that Mukhtar Said Ibrahim (the supposed ringleader of the London lot) went to Pakistan around the same time as two of the 7th July Leeds lot. They are trying to ascertain whether they met up over there...
If there was surveillance before the 7th, well, that takes us into all sorts of weird territory. What do you make of the "Haroon Rashid Aswat was MI6" stuff?

Not saying I believe in that Aswat/MI6 stuff, at least not yet anyway ;) . Still, keep an open mind and all that.

Fair enough. Neither am I. Maybe Larry O'Hara should come and have a look at this thread...
...If there was surveillance before the 7th, well, that takes us into all sorts of weird territory...Not really. I bet that MI5/MI6/SB/etc have lists of people who they think *may* be linked to various other people, who have expressed an interest in extreme Islamist ideas or who have been seen going to certain meetings, meeting people or whose telephone numbers appear on someone else's phone records or other vague connections. A lot of these people are completely innocent, some of them might be sympathetic or interested in 'jihadism' but not actually involved in anything illegal, and maybe a very few are actually involved in something. I imagine that if the UK goes to high alert - for example on 7/7 - all existing 'leads' or 'suspects' will be looked at far more carefully and extra resources put into intensive surveillance. I don't see what is so wierd about this.

Yes, you could well be right, and that there is less here than I may first have thought. It partly depends on what is understood by "under surveillance for weeks" - that could merely have meant that the security services were aware of these people as subjects of potential interest. At the other end of the scale, "surveillance" could be taken to mean daily watch on the flat, following the tenants around London etc etc. Even then, as you say, that may not be out of the ordinary - maybe that is par for the course these days with possible jihadi sympathisers or 'suspects'. It would be interesting to know whether this surveillance had begun before or after 7th July though.
