There's silver, for sure.

I went to see some silver mines once.

Big holes in the ground, that's what they were.

And they were black - not silver, I was gutted. :(

.is there any scottish gold btw?

In several places, Perthshire, Ladder Hills & most productively around Helmsdale/Strathnaver. There was a commercial operation there till quite recently & firms still do gold-panning holidays to there & other places.

Good pearls as well in certain rivers, although over-gathering on the Tay led to a ban being imposed in 1994 IIRC.

If you want some fine Scots made Jewelry, try the work of Malcom Appleby - He's not a Scot but he has lived, worked & participated in the community here for many years. He is based in Perthshire now but still visits my area regularly & for a while, he was a neighbour of mine. Indeed, his very first night in Scotland was spent on my folks's floor. Friends asked them to put-up this drookit hippy who had just got off the train from London & was in danger of freezing to death in the disused station he had rented for his new studio. Amazingly, he stayed. :D

There may be one scottish mine but we're not sure. You can pan for gold in quite a few areas, anywhere with granite really.

A friend used to work with a bloke that panned as a hobby. He had(over the years) found loads. Had a sporran belt and mount made from them, and I think some pieces of jewellry.

You can actually find big bits in cracks in rocks and stuff. Not that I ever have.

My other half is a jeweller and metalsmith. Most is made from silver or perspex, with wee bits of gold through some of the pendants.

There is some in place called tyndrum

The story of Tyndrum took an unexpected turn in the 19th century. The discovery of gold in the surrounding hills led to a gold rush. People came from far and wide to try their hand and mining and panning. The town as it stands today was largely constructed to deal with this influx of people. Alas, the gold rush was short lived; as the price of gold fell mining became economically unviable. (from ere (http://www.scottishaccommodationindex.com/tyndrumpics.htm) )

You get gold from area which have undergone extenive metamorphism (or the sedimentary systems drain said areas)
