View Full Version : The best town in Scotland
ladies & gentleman,
i give you Perth, the fair city
http://www.scotland-holidays.com/images/thumb/The%20River%20Tay%20at%20Perth.jpg
Ain't Perth a city? :p
Hmmm - I really like Arbroath.
:)
OI!
You can't do that - say the best town and then call it a city. Did you edit that...
that's a good point dozzer, i didn't spot that incosistency
it's a town though is it not, but it's affectionaly called the fair city
perhaps another thread is in order to thrash this one out
best place in scotland for the meantime then, town, city or edinburgh
Leith (a place in its own right, residents voted 4 to 1 against merging with Edinburgh), with its own San Siro.
I've got quite a bit of family in Perth, in that estate out by McDairmid Park and in the tower block by the bus station. The chips from that place on the bridge over the railway line by Craigie are the best I've tasted.
yeah that craigie chipper is top, i lived in craigie for a about a year and a half
i went out with a girl from that estate near mcdairmid, maybe she was your cousinn or something

These Scottish treads would be easier to follow if they were in ONE forum :)
i really don't think there is the traffic to justify a scottish forum

As my gran would say, "it's a small world, is it no?" My gran lives in Perth.
My aunt and uncle and cousins live in Perth. In that estate up on a hill?

The one by McDairmid, on your way out to the cattle market.
Erm, dunno. If you're travelling from erm, Stirling it's on your left before you get to Perth itself. (I think.)
anyone remember or know off hunters estate in perth?

I love Glasgow, but maybe that's my Glaswegian bias. Edinburgh makes me giddy, LOVE IT, i honeymooned there and can't get enough of the Royal mile and the castle. I love Arbroath too, my hubbys aunt lives there.
Dunbar - 3 excellent surfing beaches and its easy to get to from England

Technically Leith is in Edinburgh and has been since the 70s (I think, tho am willing to be corrected on that one). The Leith San Siro is in Edinburgh anyways. Not trying to bash Leith or anything - fucking love the place. Just feeeling like a bit of a pedant.
Whoever was talking about Oxgangs:
Yes it is the place where they knocked down the high-rises recently. Think I used to get coke from someone in one of those high rises. *shrugs*
Oh, my fave place in Scotland is probably Edinburgh. Better the devil you know and all that.

Touring around Scotland 25years ago, I looked at the map and thought Kircaldy looked like a seaside place.
It isn't.

Kirkcaldy  with its mile of beach at Seafield ;)
Despite my local loyalties, the lang toun may not be a candidate for this thread, BUT the unspoilt beach is a great place to walk - even when covered in stranded jellyfish, and you can take kids seal-spotting less than a mile's walk south from town.
edited to add - the other beach (Linktown) isn't as good.

I havent been to many places in Scotland, but went to Edinburgh last year on a stag weekend. Very nice city, and the piss up was great! Much better than london as a place to visit in my opinion and the people are more friendly. Cardiff is also a great city (but then i'm completely biased).

i think you mean the 'wee Saints' there.
Got to be Glasgow for me although i do really enjoy my trips over to Edinbugger.

Or the village in Angus.
I have no idea which is the best town in Scotland but it sure as heck isn't a LOT of the ones mentioned on this thread!!
I do like Tain myself, though never spent more than a day there.
I'll see pogo's splutter and raise it to 'you must be joking'!!
When were you last there L&L?? Tourist tack central.
Dunkeld is much nicer imo.

Perth is a beutiful place, i love going there. It's only problem is it's closeness to the ugliest town in scotland-Dundee. What a shithole that place is. my town livingston is not the best place by far, but is very easy on the eye. It looks very rural at first sight-if your driving through. no big grey buildings, no dissused industrial areas, lots of green, and lovely places to go for a walk.
But imho the best place to go for a day out in the summer or a night out at any time of the year is edinburgh. In particular the old town is a great place. i could look at the buildings for ages(yes i'm a boring old fart).
