Does anyone work near Victoria mainline Station? Mr S is walking from Baker Street to Victoria to try and get on a mainline train. I told him that I think overland trains are still running albeit with delays..
I would say that Victoria is probably on high alert... What with Scotland yard and most of the civil service being based there.
To echo what Liberty said, SKy say there are 40 fatalities and that 23 died at King Cross
fuck, that is truly horrible- if it's true :(
i'd trust the BBC more, as a reliable source- i wouldn't believe uncritically everything Sky reports, so stick with the uk media and see what can be confirmed

Does anyone know about the regions. I've tried to Access BBC Manchester & Liverpool pages & there down. I'd heard rumblings at work about something happening in Manchester. I don't want to panic anyone. But do any Urbanites know?

BBC ticker reported earlier the tube system will be shut for the remainder of the day, although I guess there's no reason they couldn't change their minds about that later in the day.
just talked to a mate, she walked from here (dalston) to elephant and castle and there were buses running to brixton - she lives in tooting but got it anyway...

There have been an unusually high number of police and ambulances going up Princess Parkway towards Manchester city centre. I expect it's just a precaution though.

This is the first actual confirmation of a controlled explosion in SW7 that I've seen.
There are a lot of houses like that in the area, but it looks like one of those very near the tube station. One or two of them are embassies or consulates.

There was a controlled explosion at Poole Railway station at about 14:00Pm,
felt it here about 1.5 miles away. Assume this is just a precaution (suspect device?) some roads still shut nearby.

Exhibition road, and it was just a precautionary measure, most likely just some drunken student left a bag lying around
Blimey! Even nearer me that I'd guessed
When I first heard about 'controlled explosion', my initial reaction was that it was a precaution because of a bag being left lying around.
Congestion charge has been suspended - it's trivial but may be important to some people.

I think the discrepancy is because the BBC only reports officially confirmed figures, whereas other news agencies go by "reliable" but unofficial ones.
& at the same time, the beeb ticker is reporting Al Qaida have just killed the Egyptian envoy.

What do mean by 'fear'? Fear of more casualties or fear of managed media?
It is possible that people in critical conditions are dying and new bodies beign found, hence the updating...after all this is a 'live' event.

Sounds like the old urban myth tbh.
Heard from one of my friends at Imperial College the suspect bag was outside the School of Mines on the corner of Exhibition Road and Prince Consort Road. Still not sure what it was tho
If they want to make economic impact, i advise all Mancs to stay away from Trafford Centre, as it is 2nd most likely target after town.

That's about half way up between where Ex Road joins Cromwell Road, and where it joins Kensington Gore at the top. Not far from main Imperial College campus.

(btw, how do people feel about the likelihood of further attacks outside London?)

Ken may have saved many lives today - his increase on congestion charging to £8 means many people now leave their cars at home - so the emergency services could access the affected zones far quicker.
Sure, there's the obvious increase in people travelling by public transport - but in the 20 years or so I've been commuting the tubes are always rammed in rush hour, same as the buses.

South ken is a bit of target what with embassies and stuff. I went to school there and when 9/11 happened we were evacuated because our school was seen as a unlikely but possible target.

I used to go to the School of Mines (part of Imperial College) and my friends are still there. Very concerned that a university would be targeted. Unless as someone said earlier that it was some idiot student.
Although there were some students arrested there last year under terrorism charges.

All my mates at IC seem convinced it was a flase alarm, just a bag that was accidentaly left somewhere & everyone panicked.
Of course, there's no evidence that anything was "targeted" in Kensington - most likely it was just a bag left unattended.

The School of Mines is not far from a couple of embassies, but most of them that are in SW7 are further down (south of Cromwell Road largely).
I'd prefer to think this particular incident (minor as it turns out) is just a precautionary controlled explosion , but we don't have enough info yet.

Rocket, BSI are in Chiswick High Rd (just above Gunnersbury Station). Security's pretty tight there in general and they tend to shut things down if anything dodgy's going on. Heard from a friend who works there a bit earlier - if there some info you need, I can mail him?

Ken's speech...
"This was not a terrorist attack against the mighty and the powerful; it is not aimed at presidents or prime ministers; it was aimed at ordinary working class Londoners, black and white, Muslim and Christians, Hindu and Jew, young and old, indiscriminate attempt at slaughter irrespective of any considerations, of age, of class, of religion, whatever, that isn't an ideology, it isn't even a perverted faith, it's just indiscriminate attempt at mass murder, and we know what the objective is, they seek to divide London. They seek to turn Londoners against each other and Londoners will not be divided by this cowardly attack. I wish to speak through you directly, to those who came to London to claim lives, nothing you do, how many of us you kill will stop that flight to our cities where freedom is strong and where people can live in harmony with one another, whatever you do, how many you kill, you will fail."
Well said.

A friends dad works for the Met. She said he told her that someone was shot at Canary Wharf. She also said that they are expecting more attacks.....
It's their job to expect more though isn't it? They'd get battered if they allre laxed and there was a second wave.
As for the shooting thing ... obv. the guy can't say too much, but my mate at reuters def. made it sound like they weren't being ALLOWED to release the story, rather than it might not be true ....

Yeah the shootings been mentioned on here since early afternoon. Apperantly the news rooms know about it but haven't made it public, probably under the whole not wanting to panic anyone thing...I've heard this from my brother too.

There will be no tube trains until tomorrow morning. Even then it will be limited as the sites of the bombs (eg Picadilly line) will be treated as 'scenes of crime'. The whole of the circle line will be out. It will be days perhaps weeks before a normal service will be provided.

From MEN:
Manchester on high alert after attacks
Clarissa Satchell
GREATER Manchester was on a state of high alert this afternoon following the explosions on the transport network in London.
Extra patrols were sent onto the streets focussing on the areas near train stations and transport networks.
Although there has been no intelligence to suggest there is any threat to the region, extra officers were sent out on the streets to act as a deterrent and help reassure the public.

Any more news from Manchester ref the emergency service activity?Police and transport organisations are on a heightened state of alert across north-west England after terrorist explosions in London on Thursday.
Police in Lancashire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester urged people to be vigilant, stressing there was no intelligence the areas were targets. .
The BBC site offers some harrowing eyewitness testimony:
People were screaming and shouting and saying things like I'm dying, I'm dying, please help me.
I saw three bodies on the track. I couldn't look, it was so horrific. I think one was moving but I'm not too sure.
