AP news have confirmed this too...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/britain_explosion;_ylt=A0SOwmLWFc1CHkEAZBGs0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3ODdxdHBhBHNlYwM5NjQ-

So it appears according to the Israeli embassy, Scotland Yard knew about this.

The "power surge" theory seems to have been a panic limitation exercise.

yeah that was bullshit!! you dont get power surges and the electricity board saying there was nothing that could have caused them. how the fuck scoland yard could have known and not done anything  sorry i wont say anything more

Well the whole thing about Al-qaida is that it's just a collection of (largely) independent groups, and this was probably only carried out by a dozen or so people. By people I mean completely cunts obviously.

Do you really know that? Is it helpful to call these terorrists cunts? They may be widows of men we killed - or mothers/sisters/brothers of men we killed.

Isn;t it time we realised our own responsibilty here - we've fucked around with the Arab world for decades.

The answer is we do something about getting rid of Blair - like the Spanish did after the Madrid blasts.

From another site re donating blood:

Do NOT donate blood unless asked to...

When 9/11 happened, they had a huge influx of blood, much of which wasn't needed. They then had a dip, as people can't donate blood again for (6 months?)

The end result was a lot of wasted blood, and the struggling to fulfill supply.

The blood service will make an appeal if neccesary.

Also, please don't take my post as patronising or condescending, just trying to point it out..

Well that's absolutely right. I think all the nurses will be otherwise disposed with tending to all the casualties, taking blood is not a major priority at the moment.

No buses, no tube, no DLR. Just found out overland services are still running, so there should be trains from London Bridge to Lewisham, but I'm not sure I fancy going to London Bridge.

Especially since the "first the tubes, then the buses" thing appears to have been planned to cause maximum casualties. :(

I can't confirm anything.

But I'm safe, and so is everyone here. My empoloyers (a 'major heritage institution' ;) ) briefly did an emergency internal evacuation of all visitors and staff into a large central gallery furthest away from any external roads. Security people here told us that this was on Police advice.

The mini evacuation only lasted max. 20 minutes though. People are being allowed to leave the gallery and go around the rest of the building, and back to their offices, and indeed are being allowed to leave the building (although part of the SK area, maybe around the Tube but I can't confirm, is APPARANTLY still taped off).

I can go out into the street, and head towards Knightsbridge and Harrods though, should I so want. I don't.

AL QAIDA CLAIM OVER BLASTS

By David Stringer, PA

Al Qaida terrorists today claimed responsibility for the London blasts on an Islamic website and said that "Britain is burning with fear".

The unverified claim, made on the Al-Qal'ah - Fortress - internet site, was posted by a group calling themselves the Secret Organisation Group of Al-Qa'ida of Jihad Organisation in Europe.

The message, posted this morning, said: "The heroic mujahidin have carried out a blessed raid in London.

"Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters."

BERLIN AP:

A group calling itself "Secret Organisation - al Qaida in Europe" has posted a claim of responsibility for the series of blasts in London, a German magazine reported Thursday.

Der Spiegel magazine reported that the group posted its message on a website popular with Islamic militants, which it did not name.
It said the group claimed the explosions were in retaliation for Britain's involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Rejoice, Islamic nation. Rejoice Arab world. The time has come for vengeance against the Zionist crusader government of Britain in response to the massacres Britain committed in Iraq and Afghanistan", read the statement, a photograph of which was displayed on Der Spiegel's website.

"The heroic mujahadeen carried out a blessed attack in London, and now Britain is burning with fear and terror, from north to south, east to west", it said.

The statement went on to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy that they would face "the same punishment" if they fail to withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Full transcript of alleged claim of responsibility from Der Spiegel.

July 7, 2005
TERRORIST ATTACK IN LONDON
Purported Al-Qaida Letter Claims Responsibility for Bombings

By Yassin Musharbash

A letter posted on a Web site frequently used by al-Qaida claims that the "Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe" is responsible for today's massive terrorist attack in London. In it, the group also issues warnings to Denmark and Italy.

A screenshot of the purported letter. In a letter located by SPIEGEL ONLINE on a Web site trafficked by al-Qaida, a document that claims to be written by the interntional terror group claims responsibility for the London attacks.

"Rejoice, community of Muslims," the letter states. "The heroic mujahedeens today conducted an attack in London," it continues. All of Great Britain is now shaken and shocked, "in the north, the south, west and east." "We've warned the British government and the British people time and again," the letter adds. "We've kept our promise and have carried out a blessed military operation."

"We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all other crusader governments." We demand that all countries pull their troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq, states the letter, which has been signed by the "Secret Organization -- al Qaida in Europe."

The authenticity of the document could not be immediately confirmed. But in recent months, authentic bulletins and claims of responsibility from different terrorist groups, including the Iraqi al-Qaida affiliate, have been posted to the "al-Qala'a" Web site where today's posting was found.

Inauthentic material, however, has also been posted to the site in the past.

YES. The attacks are obviously designed to frighten us - make us live in terror - that's the point. The point is more to make us scared and live in fear, than to actually kill people. The terrorists want us to fear them. That's what they have done.

General panic, and a bomb in a tube tunnel will send casualties smoke and flames in at least two directions.

Things always get exaggerated at the time. They were talkng about seven explosions earlier - now it's just four. They were on about three buses - now we know of only one. There've been various other scares, but not amounting to much.

Frankly, I bet a few sick fuckers have had a laugh today, phoning in hoax bomb scares to add to the confusion.

Even if it's not as bad as it looked a couple of hours ago it's stil dreadful. And still no definitive casualty figures.

And remember, millions of people around the world live in a state of war with the immediate danger of attack, torture etc every single day. What have we to be frightened of compared to that?

But how much did they know - di they know there had been a bomb - and what could/should they have said? Should they have told people not to get on buses - in which case there would have been a higher concentration of people round the tube station, and what if there had been a bomb planted there? I was pissed off with this too. I couldn't get on the train at Wembley Park and the staff told us to get a bus to the city. What they should have done is told people not to travel unless absolutely necessary. It was only because I received a call from my mum that I knew the full extent of what was happening and decided to go home.

Can't talk for the whole place, but top end of Old Broad Street /houndditch cordoned off, police manning the fence. Probably be able to walk around most of it, just not near any of the stations (crime scenes)

Yeah that's probably why the BBC aren't reporting it yet, as it's from an "unofficial but reliable" source as Sky news says (Sky are reporting 45 dead).

Earlier multiple explosion reports because they happened between stations.

Likewise, the bus was near Russel/Tavistock, now confirmed as only one bus at Woburn.

Central London is quiet but seems safe enough - I'm just off Oxford Street... Most people are just going about their business, it seems oddly subdued though...

I might have to walk home later ... 10 miles!! Oh well.. I'm not moaning. I'm sure there will be others doing the same.. The Dunkirk spirit and all that ... The worst thing we can do is give whoever did this the satisfaction that it may have disrupted our lives. Sneaky cowards.
