He will leave G8 conference to get info and he will return later tonight

He says it is barabaric esp on the day of the meeting....africa....environment
He says these bastard who did this will not win... we will not lie down
(i paraphrase)
'defend our values and freedom' - using Bush's scriptwriter, perhaps?

Goodbye civil liberties.
Funny, how they don't want them to interfere when one is a direct result of the other.

try not to worry yet about people you haven't heard from. Many will be stuck on their way into work and won't be able to acces email/internet. Mobile phones are not working properly, which may be why people can't reply. If there's anyone you haven't heard from, try them later this afternoon when the lines are likely to be quieter

BBC, AQ 'have gone for effect rather than mass casualty'. True, actually. This could actually have been far FAR worse. Not to detract from what's happened, but....
no confirmed fatalities are 90 so far..... :(
I think that's confirmed caualties. BBC are only confirming 2 deaths.

Whoever did this, it's THEIR FAULT and their alone.
This idea that somehow Blair is "to blame" for the actions of clearly deranged terrorist murderers is offensive.
The only thing we can do is to find the people who did this, and those who support and help them, and destroy them utterly.

My girlfriend lost her mobile yesterday. She works inside Victoria station. It's highly unlikely that she's hurt but she's almost certainly scared shitless and she's still not managed to phone me. If the station's been evacuated she's probably being herded round by police somewhere. Is there any point trying to find her (I can cycle there) ?

sorry folks, had to disappear into an editorial meeting would you beleive it!
anyway, we're still here at canary wharf, safer inside than out imo tbh. haven't heard much from outside so no idea about the shooting rumours, they're going round here tho. security guards v active inside, and tons of police outside - we're the best guarded office block in london at the moment i reckon.
this is fucking horrifying.
everyone here accounted for apart from my boss  :(
Kea glad you're okay. I work on the 25th Floor at CW but could only get as far as Bermondsey this morning before being evacuated from the tube. My boyfriend rang me and told me there had been 5 explosions (this was around 9.30am) and to get in a taxi and go home. I could hear the fear in his voice so I did what he said and am now at home glued to the tv. My colleague is in our office alone as far as I know which I feel terrible about.

that must be worrying, maomao, but i reckon they'll gave evacuated so you probably wouldn't find her. i reckon the best bet is to sit tight so she can call you when she can, if you're not there she'll fret

Israeli: Scotland Yard Warned Us

• Terrorists Strike London With Series of Blasts
JERUSALEM*—*British police told the Israeli Embassy in London minutes before Thursday's explosions that they had received warnings of possible terror attacks in the city, a senior Israeli official said.
Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (search) had planned to attend an economic conference in a hotel over the subway stop where one of the blasts occurred, and the warning prompted him to stay in his hotel room instead, government officials said.
Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom (search) said he wasn't aware of any Israeli casualties.
Just before the blasts, Scotland Yard called the security officer at the Israeli Embassy to say they had received warnings of possible attacks, the official said. He did not say whether British police made any link to the economic conference.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the nature of his position.
The Israeli Embassy was in a state of emergency after the explosions in London, with no one allowed to enter or leave, said the Israeli ambassador to London, Zvi Hefet (search).
All phone lines to the embassy were down, said Danny Biran, an Israeli Foreign Ministry official.
The ministry set up a situation room to deal with hundreds of phone calls from concerned relatives. Thousands of Israelis are living in London or visiting the city at this time, Biran said.
Amir Gilad, a Netanyahu aide, told Israel Radio that Netanyahu's entourage was receiving updates all morning from British security officials, and "we have also asked to change our plans."
Netanyahu had been scheduled to stay in London until Sunday, but that could change, Gilad said.

I have got to say that, even though there has been a step up of security, this has been a very lame terrorist attack compared with those across the water. I have a feeling that this is not a large terrorist network, though if it is they are losing their touch slightly.

It has caused maximum disruption from relatively small recources. It's a text book terrorist operation.

From another site re donating blood:
Do NOT donate blood unless asked to...
When 9/11 happened, they had a huge influx of blood, much of which wasn't needed. They then had a dip, as people can't donate blood again for (6 months?)
The end result was a lot of wasted blood, and the struggling to fulfill supply.
The blood service will make an appeal if neccesary.
Also, please don't take my post as patronising or condescending, just trying to point it out..
only source for tottenham court rd is another poster working there...
My brother works on Stephen Street, spoke to him abouit an hour ago and he's fine and says no trouble in the immediate vicinity.

Well the whole thing about Al-qaida is that it's just a collection of (largely) independent groups, and this was probably only carried out by a dozen or so people. By people I mean completely cunts obviously.

To add re blood:
Although blood banks greatly appreciated the good will and effort of the new donors, Chambers says their donations wouldn't have helped mass casualties on Sept. 11. Instead, these people would have required blood collected in the weeks before the attacks, since blood needs time to be tested and processed.
