We still can't get through to the police station, I suppose if they need him they will call. The army is on the streets now so they will provide lots of support. What a fucking awful day.

Apparently all bus services and tram services in central Manchester have been suspended.

Overreacting, non?
Not really no. Merely sensible.

Transport links are being targeted, thus shut down all transport. If they didn't and there was a bomb there...

Tell the jobsworth cunt to go fuck himself.
actually, it's probably a very safe decision (tho he sounds to have announced it in a highly cuntish way). Bombs are going off on transport, not in offices, so stay in the fucking offices.

Has there been any word on how long the phone network will be down for? Kind of worried about various peeps & not being able to get hold of them is just making it worse. :(

As long as the situtation requires probably. At least not till around early evening I'd guess?

As I said before Newcastle Underground suspended and local Metro Radio reckons there are numerous police vehicles at a site by the Tyne Bridge and Sage building

Eme's having to walk from Hammersmith to Brixton after they evacuated her office.

I read that as 'Brighton' for a moment, because of other posts

Stig may have to walk from North Acton to wherever she can get a train to South London ... not til after 5 o clock though.

(she may be able to get a network train from Wileesden Junction to Clapham Junction via Olympia)

I wonder how long tio will take for at least parts of the thansport network to get back on track?

I take it buses are running normally outside zone 1?

All I can say is my sympathy to anyone caught up in this directly or indirectly. The best advise I can offer is if you are not in direct danger stay put, do not try to get home, do not try to get into London, avoid using phones apart from emergencies as all unnecessary movement will only make an extremely difficult situation (with an undermanned force) even more difficult, may expose you to follow up attacks and use of phones may clog the net. Wait until the situation has calmed down, even if that means kipping on the office floor and then make your way home preferably by foot. Keep safe people.

Intresting Edware Rd was selected, opposite Paddington Green nick, where terrorist suspects are interogated. Also Liverpool st, which serves Londons financial district.

Up until the bus explosions, it was still being claimed it was a 'power surge', a cover story obviously invented not to cause panic. Radio 2 were still claiming this at 11am.

Controlled exposions gives the impression it wasnt suicide bombers.

Unlikely, relying on getting signal is a very careless way to set off a bomb, however the timer function is tried and tested. Still, you might want to give a statement at some point, just in case.

'do you think this the hallmark of a terrorist attack?'

!!! What on earth do they think it might be??

They claim not to be confirming it so people won't panic! What do they think people are thinking?? that it was a power surge? We have been expecting an attack for long enough after all.

Are people panicking? I don't have a tv but the radio reports suggest that people are coping.

Very unlikely that this could have been implemented in less than 24 hours. Even the IRA would have been hard pushed to do that!

Phew, I just got into work, the bus drivers were told to abandon their busses in the middle of the street leaving people stranded around cannon street station, nobody knew what was going on, we all crammed into the nearest MacDonald's  to watch the news on their plasma screens. All the phone networks went down and are still down, we tried to share taxis to get out of London but there were none. I managed to walk to work (about 1/2 hr walk) watching ambulances and police cars carrying armed police whiz past me. As I got into work they changed our security status from green to red alert as a bus had exploded just up the road.

I walked into the office and everyone was crammed around TV's watching the news, we did a head count as many of our staff come into kings cross station, thankfully everyone is accounted for. Many people have opted to stay at home..wise decision.

That's it from me form now..still a bit shaken but feeling better.

But has anyone confirmed this device went off???

Earlier speculation sounded as if the BBC was saying a device was found -- which suggests found before going off, and rendered safe/defused, to me.

Think before panicing people.

To counter the general mood, large Museums in South Kensington are open completely normally.

Small number of visitors at the moment, though.

I know SW7 is a long way from most of the reported incidents, but I do think there's a danger of saying EVERYTHING is in chaos, when to me the picture seems a bit more varied than that.

How can whoever did this direct the attacks toward civilians, especially considering the recent scale of protest against all things bad in the World? Not wanting to speculate at all but it certainly makes me think...

2 deaths at Aldgate - Reuters

LONDON (Reuters) - A series of explosions ripped through London's underground rail system on Thursday morning, killing several people, in what appeared to be co-ordinated attacks to coincide with the start of a G8 summit in Scotland.

Blasts were also reported on buses. Eyewitnesses said the top was ripped off a double-decker bus near Russell Square close to King's Cross train terminal.

It's really weird outside on Regent Street - no buses, hardly any cars, just bunches of confused looking tourists.

Going to be walking home in a while, and was going to avoid Whitehall like the plague - then I thought that it's probably one of the best protected places to be in London right now...

Hope all the people who assumed three immediately, on reading an unsubstantiated, unconfiirmed rumour here that it was three, now feel slightly ashamed.

It's bad enough what we know to have happened, without egging the pudding even further. :(

The BBC said it was three...you'd think they would be a reliable source

<Raises hand> Three page feature on the relative merits of various top-dressing machines. Not really gripping at the best of times.

Apparently the whole of LT is shut down.

Oh christ, it's a long walk from Hammersmith to Brixton.

No - because this is an updates thread and people are posting up information as it comes in from various sources such as BBC etc. No-one is scaremongering, people are just passing on information as it becomes public.
So, please shut the fuck up now wiliam. This isn't the time or place to be getting on your high horse.

International Olympic Committee, I know it's an aside.

maybe not the right thread to be discussing that at this precise moment in time.

does this bring back memories of 9/11 when everyone was searching for news of what had happened and why. i'm annoyed i'm stuck at work and cant get to watch any coverage on the tv. needless to say u75 is providing me with more information than the news could though.
