I drive past it and it looks open, but their website hasn't been updated since Christmas.
They seem to be doing some reggae nights on a Sunday which seem good, but it all seems pretty haphazard.
Anyone been. In the know about it?

Fair do's
I havent been for a while, but the bloke who runs the Reggae nights also posts on the Reggae Wales forums, and I emailed him to see if there was any system as to which nights iit's on.
He told me for now (July at least) it's gonna be on every Sunday.
I like Journeys, and it's one of the few places you can get a late drink without running the gauntlet in town. Are there any others?
And I've just moved quite close to it, so anyone fancy going to one of these 'ere reggae nights (although I can't make it this week or the week after!)

£3 a pint for posh beer.
are you talking about dave evans or nina? can't realy comment on either.
they do a night with ian witchal (sp) who plays all sorts of strange music that i don't like, and thats about all i can say for the place. been there a few times since it changed hands and never really enjoyed it.
just something missing there.

I went first when it was that Blue/Orange affair, to a few Northern Soul nights and various other stuff. It seemed to have a re-invention a couple of years ago with more indie-orientated stuff (a night that sounded like a copy of Bring and Play, Mogwai DJ set, Bethan Elfyn's club night etc). Then it shut down again, and re-opened in its new tasteful style.
Can't comment on the owners though - Didn't a Greek bloke own it at some point?
what's the score with putting stuff on there then? :)

I think you're thinking of the "Greek bloke" that KBT is referring to... the beer was truly fucking awful, the bitter smelled of cow manure, and it was only beaten by the rancid wine they had the nerve to ask £8 a bottle for... we ordered one once and actually managed to summon the valour to hand it back in.
Saying all that, I also understand that it has changed hands, and to be fair I have had some great nights in there (on bottled beer :D ).
It's only round the corner from me, so how about an u75 meet & review sesh for the all new Journeys?

Stick your head round the door and find out if there's anything decent coming up!
We could even have a few pints and a game of crib in the Royal Oak beforehand.

The price of beer has gone up since the new owners have taken over. You can only get yuppie beer there now.

Beer aside, is the reggae nights any good?
s'alright, and certainly a bonus for us quality nightlife starved Ciairdiff east types. Haven't written home about it, though. It always mildly fails to deliver, in a non-offensive and quotidian way.
apparently the riddim up night is on tonight, a long shot on here i know :p
but anybody up for it?
spoke to someone involved earlier and they said they got a deal with red stripe for 2pound a pint :)
ahh, just noticed only 5pm-11pm..hmm
went there a few months ago and cant seriously see myself going there again. beer was very expensive.
greetins
I run the riddim up nights.
i'm there every sunday except the 3rd sun each month that is a reggae/soca mixup
i agree its been nothing to write home about at the moment, but its early days and i gotta keep trying. red dragon sound came down from london and smashed it the other week and i've got some more special guests in the pipeline. hopefully people will start to talk about it and a roots scene will grow.
i'm gonna be finishing at 12 from now on and like someone said there's now an offer on draft redstripe beer for riddim up sundays.
hope some people from here can reach down there next time, 24th july. if you do please come say hi.
i want to provide a space for some up and coming local selectas as well so if you know anyone with talent, tell them to drop me a mix.
any other comments/suggestions are more than welcome
give thanks
i WILL be down garethd, was speaking to ruben in the park on sun

peace :)

Might pop in to see if I recognise any friendly faces (on Clifton St? You must be joking sir) after my sojourn in sunnier climes...
all good.
the bloke with long dreads thats banned but comes and sits outside even in the rain seems kinda friendly :)
yeah i've just got a new batch of records in, mostly new roots like richie spice etc, you may have to arm wrestle some of the other DJ's for them but i'm sure you'll get something ;)

Well, seeing as how I seem to be the flying restaurant critic, I thought I should resurrect this thread and say that I was in Journey's on Sat night, for a mate's leaving do. The food seemed alright, although it sort of irritates me that they call places "Tapas Bars" when in Spain they give the fecking tapas away for free ;)
Saying that, the whole place doesn't seem to have gelled... again the curse of Journeys? They were trying to run a comedy night on the upstairs bit, with punters and eaters in the downstairs bit, and to get in we had to run the gauntlet of the comedians' manager, who leapt on us as we entered and demanded to know if we were there for the comedy. (No, it wasn't funny. Neither him nor the comedy.) He seemed most peeved that he hadn't managed to squeeze £3 out of each of us for his little acts.
Food seemed to keep all 12 of us happy, although OF COURSE they forgot my order and I ended up eating after everyone else had finished. Typical.
As we were having a good time, the comedians were obviously suffering from our laughs - uninspired by their routines! Eventually they pulled this horrendous concertina dividing wall/curtain thing across the top of the stairs. That was a horrible gesture, cos everyone downstairs felt like they'd done something wrong, and then to top it all, about 1/2hr later, the guy who had accosted us at the door came and asked (oh fallen pride!) if we wanted to go "upstairs" for free. Jesus! What a palaver.
Frankly, they should realise you can't ride two horses at once. If it is a bar/eaterie, then the comedy should be for free. If you charge in for the comedy, and no reason not to, then you can't take bookings for restaurant service. Two mates who turned up later on (once food was over) had to pay £6 to get in, and that was after they had pulled the concertina slide over!
Apart from that, beer seemed to be Red Stripe at £2-50/pint. Although I don't remember too well! Is that considered dear?
any of you slackers up for this se soir?
prob meeting KBT in a bit to go there :)
