I have never been into games but I did really like zelda, now with my nice new go faster computor I want a game for me to play on my pc, so what games are out there like zelda? I am not into the killing and fighting my way through various worlds and levels, I just want a game that has to solve problems and find things etc, any ideas?

SNES Zelda or Zelda 64 and above?

There are plenty of great 2D RPGs out there that are similar-ish in build to Zelda... but often more like Final Fantasy which is a bit less 'solving things' and more 'solving mathematical equations to kill the monster'...

There ain't much like a 3D Zelda game though...

Not sure you find much of either on the PC but of course, you can emulate the 2D games with ease.

There are plenty of Zelda games though - have you finished them all?

I disagree and reccommend final fantasy.

Its not hack and slash mindlessly and it also has a pretty well thought out story to follow.

It is pretty linear in a way, so think 'interactive book' when you play. But heck. I love games, I love books and I appreciate good musical scores.

These games do take a little time to get into, but once into the story/game/character, it is arguably one of the best games ever.

PCs aren't really famed for this sort of game, the only thing I can think of recently that comes close to a 'Zelda feel' is the latest Prince of Persia games.
Beyond the PC on the PS2 you have games like Ico (superb if you can get a copy) and the new one that's coming out called God of War or something which have a Zelda like approach. Also Starfox Dinosaur thingy on the GC is similar but nowhere near as good. Dig out all the old Zelda games if you can - nothing comes close in this genre.

I disagree and recommend Zelda :p

Final Fantasy has long appealed to the traditionally 'statistics' style RPG that, like or not, tends to sell as a ratio - better in Japan and Asian markets.

You don't 'hack and slash' but you do go down a menu to select your spell or attack... lately, they've made this a bit better by making you do something after selecting like pressing buttons at certain times or in a certain order...

I prefer real time RPGs to turn based. There's just more excitement that way

The upcoming Zelda game looks great too - Link as a werewolf!

I do believe you can get 'Fable' on the PC, which is a Zelda-like game. You can customise your caracter to a crazy degree, fart, kick chickens, plus it's British, so all the voices are familiar and it's actually funny. Go get!

You can kick chickens?! Are you sure you aren't playing Zelda? ;)

Very few games have entire towns where the economy seems to be based on poultry anyway...

fable, cool as it is does draw on a lot from zelda at many levels, fishing, digging, lots of it's there. also it's over pretty quick.

dunno what to recommend. i'd say get the sims. or try some online stuff if you're more a lover than a fighter spacegirl.

I have only played 2 zelda games on the nintendo years ago, the first one and then the ocorina (sp?) of time, these are the only games I ahve ever played and I really liked them, I ahve got some other shoot 'em up games but I really don't like them, I like to have to find things and solve puzzles etc, don't care if it doesn't have fab graphics, the simpler the better for me

I have the sims but I only like building the houses, can't be doing with all the job hunting and keeping the people happy

Go buy a 2nd hand Nintentdo Gamecube for next to nothing on Ebay and it will probably come with Zelda WindWaker. Its fantastic, but not as strong as Ocarina so I am told.

It places, it's a bit better than Ocarina actually. In some, it can be noticeably worse. Mostly because you have to sail everywhere and that can be time consuming/dull (since you don't want to make it exciting and face down enemies since it just means you'll be even further from doing what you need to do).

The teleport is a healthy blessing anyway...

If you're not into the killing, just the puzzles, you could try looking into adventure games. I got Broken Sword: (Curse of the?) Sleeping Dragon recently, it's basically just solving puzzles and finding items to do it with, no fighting at all. Might be right up your street.

Get an emulator called zsnes then the zelda SNES rom (game file).
Bit dodgy but if the games no longer for sale I don't see a problem with it.

The words - Final. Fantasy. VII.

It's a few years old now but it's an amzing example of RPG genius. I'd never been into RPG's till this sucked me in for 90 of hours of sheer delight. Character building is superb and while I won't spoil the plot, I know people who have cried over certain points in the game. Beautifully backed up with hours of lush FMV.

Pure quality.

But good god is it a boring game to actually play. Walk a bit, fight random monsters. Walk a bit more, fight more random monsters. Solve a puzzle involving finding a shiny thing in a screen full of unshiny things. Fight more random monsters.

and so on. Great fun if you like obsessing over the ststistics of your characters and picking execatly the right combinations of armour and magic. But nothing like Zelda at all.

hmmm, true, but I played it for the hugely impressive battle spells and summonings (and spent hours in the arcade!). Mind blowing considering the age of the game.

The sailing is a bit dull - but then, I remember getting bored in Ocarina riding everywhere as well.

I've still got the Gamecube Ocarina disc from when I pre-ordered, come to think of it.

The riding didn't take anything like as long as the sailing does... and you got to teleport much earlier to all the right places much earlier too... in Windwaker - whether you get the teleport or not is kind of random!

Well, playing Broken Sword has rekindled the adventure game bug, if you go to http://www.scummvm.org/ you can download a program which lets you run creaky old adventure games, and helpfully you can also download a couple of games for free, Beneath a Steel Sky (Cyberpunk, bladerunner type thing), and Flight of the Amazon Queen (B-Movie, lost in the jungle with mad scientists and lizard women running around the place). Both the same type of thing as Broken Sword, just older. Worth a look at that price, anyway :)

Graphics are old, but i'm guessing you won't mind that if you don't play games a lot, the problem is nobody buys these types of games any more so very few get made, so you have to rely on the older stuff :(

cool, thanks for you advice and everyone elses, any more?Check out "Beyond Good and Evil"

"...Beyond Good & Evil, mixing adventure, combat, exploration, photography, puzzle solving, chasing, racing, stealth, and teamwork. This unorthodox release, designed by Rayman creator Michel Ancel, hits you with frenzied action right from the start, and the pace never lets up. What you experience is most reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on the Nintendo GameCube." review (http://www.avault.com/reviews/review_temp.asp?game=beyondge)
