This is fantastic - truly inspirational stuff from the 'People's Club'.
Most, if not all teams, release an end of season review DVD charting the highs and lows of the season. Only Everton will be hosting a Premiere (in a tent outside the ground, no less).
Come and sit in a tent and watch a team come fourth in the Premiership. Revel in 13 memorable defeats and 7 inspirational draws. Witness the year's heaviest premiership defeat (that's 7 - 0, by the way). Recoil in horror at horrific scenes of violence during the FA Cup game at United. What a truly inspirational season.
What makes this even funnier is yesterday it was announced that they (quite rightly) are not seeded in next year's Champions League, so they will almost defo be going out in the qualifiers (they could play Inter Milan, Sporting Lisbon, Ajax, Monaco, Rangers or Celtic...).
Flimsier, Agricola, and any other Blues that can count how many times they've been to Goodison on one hand, don't miss out on this unique opportunity to sit in a tent on Walton Lane and celebrate Everton's glory - a glory which looks to amount to a single two legged European tie and backdoor entry to the UEFA Cup.
Well done.

Your patent jealousy is evident--rearrange the words off & sod in any order you want, creep. At least we got into the competition fair & square, unlike you. Maybe we will go out early--but it will be by playing our guts out. I'll quite happily take the UEFA Cup this year anyway, for a start.
Off back to Surbiton with you.

In your last 5 games you won one, drew one, and lost 3 (one by seven goals).
Yes, it was scraped.

I think "scraped" would be either getting in on the last day of the season, or perhaps getting twatted at half time and then winning on penalties. Getting in with two whole games to spare doesnt seem to fit that definition.
Still, given that we werent pushed very hard, I suppose you could be right.

Don't get me wrong Agnes, Everton deserved that spot, cos all the teams below you were shite (European Champions included).
But to celebrate coming 4th in such a laughable way is hilarious. Surprised there wasn't a homecoming parade like last week.
Are you going to the Premiere then? Or would you feel a bit of a fraud, seeing as how you've never been to a game? I'll show you round town if you do come up, and I'll even buy you a bevvy.

what is likely to happen if (and i think they should) liverpool are allowed to enter the champions league as holders (bet that's nice to hear :D ) would they have to play qualifiers, would they be seeded, and would it mean arsenal joining man ure and the toffee men in the qualifying stages...
You have to admit, it is impressive qualifying for the Champions League despite letting in more goals than they scored. Amazing! :p

marty,
why would that happen? if the rules dont let them in as it is, why should they suddenly stand so as to deny Arsenal?

well i don't want arsenal to have to qualify, I'm just wondering what would happen if, liverpool are allowed to defend it, it makes sense for liverpool to defend their trophy, real madrid won the champions league a few years ago, but finished 5th in the league, the 4th place team were shunted into the uefa cup to allow real to defend their trophy (i'm sure everton fans love that precedent :D ) I'm sure uefa will come up with some way to let liverpool defend the trophy...

not to mention robbing other teams of money. I read that if they are allowed in they will simply share the same pot of money between 5 teams rather than 4. (although that was in WSAG so might not be the least biased source!)

I hope so. It ain't a world cup without Brazil.
Ah right. So teams that qualify for the competition in accordance with the rules should get shafted by an entirely subjective opinion on who 'should' be in it?

marty,
it doesnt make sense for them to be allowed to defend their trophy, because - like the rest of the CL - this is a situation of their (and their mates in the G14) own making.
hopefully UEFA will stand firm, its the FA's decision who they send and the fact that its us, and not them, is nothing to do with UEFA. that it will probably make the G14 throw their teddies out of the pram is a bonus.
well it's not strictly in the rules that liverpool automatically defend the trophy, i just think they should be allowed, the european cup always had that right, in fact notts forest won their second european cup because they were allowed to qialify as holders...
agricola
04-06-2005, 16:05
marty,
..... and if we were talking about the European Cup I would agree with you, but we are talking about the cash-cow that is the CL.
The winner not qualifying has been the state of affairs since the inception of the CL, and the fact that the winners dont qualify is not a problem that the G14 and UEFA saw fit to change, even after it came up after the Real Madrid scandal - they dont care; they recognize that the G14 clubs will almost always qualify for it anyway and the gravy train can roll on, and on, and on - and even if it would happen, the national FA - under pressure from the "big clubs" - would fold... as the Spanish FA did.
However (and I never thought I would be saying this), our FA appear to have grown a pair and told the RS that they could go hang. Now they are stuck with the Daily Mail and its begging campaign.... lets just hope UEFA dont fold in as well.

Couldn't give a fuck what the outcome is - we're European Champions for the fifth time, we get to keep the trophy and get a special badge to boot.
If we don't get allowed in the CL, we are the only undefeated European Champions in history, and we get to play in the UEFA cup with the scruffy Blue gyppos from Widnes. Whatever.
Know what the funny thing is, all my Blue mates who fucking hate Liverpool phoned me after the game and all but one were happy. To be fair, they all said that had they not had a good season, it would be harder to accept, but seeing as they are in next year's comp, they can find it in them to wish us well.
It's funny how all these Bluenose twats from out of town, who don't even know where Goodison is never mind go there, are the most vocal against the Reds.
Keep it coming Ag, you hormonal tart.

I don't think Liverpool should be in the Champions league btw. No matter which way you look at it they take someone's spot don't they? If Uefa say 'go on England, have five places', surely that means someone else loses their place somewhere in Europe. Which isn't fair.
I'm really bored with this one though.

Dear God, the phrase 'full of themselves' could well have been invented for this. Puts me in mind of the WSC cover from a few years ago after Liverpool did the tin-pot treble. "LIVERPOOL STUN EUROPE:" "We're fourth!" "Nearly as good as Chelsea!"

You know what? If I lived in Liverpool, and as mmm has kindly pointed out - I don't, I'd welcome the chance to celebrate our amazing season - one which has seen the 18th favourites for the league (which has cost mmm! :D) finish 4th beyond anyone's dreams. The 7-0. I was there. I hated it, but it didn't matter. The Arsenal fan I got the tickets from talked about the testimonial atmosphere. So what? The point is that the season is the best we've had for many years... I loved it, and I'm happy about it. If we'd done this two seasons ago, the RS wouldn't have give a shit, because they were better than us. Because we're now better than them, they resort to any old shit to slate us. Sadly, they know they'll have to face the ribbing until they're above us in the league at the end of next season - as I'm sure everyone agrees they will be!
Like they said last year of course! ;)

Didn't want to derail this thread, but the Marsden Cup is important. And for the record we're not very good at winning at Wembley either. I make it 10 (ten) FA Cup or playoff finals now, of which we have won a total of 2 (two) games. :(
I've just had a look on the Everton and Liverpool websites and can't find any information on whether either have ever won the Lancshire Marsden cup. If anyone knows who has fared better then this would probably settle the arguement over who is the worst of the two once and for all.

Lynch - Out of Contract finally thank fuck.
Mears is staying put. Might have even just signed a new contract. The only reason he hasn't been playing is because he has been injured pretty much all season. Looks a decent player to me.
PNE programmes and website say we won the Marsden in '96. Rings a bell but I have no idea to be honest. Must have missed the flag market celebrations for it.
As for only letting big teams into the Marden Cup; I'm sure Manchesters United and City have both entered, so don't see why Liverpool and Everton wouldn't have.

I don't think we enter it either anymore. I think we should though. It would be a good oppurtunity for the reserve and youth players to play in a few semi-competetive games. Especially if the likes of Everton, Man United, City, Liverpool, Bolton, Blackburn and, er, Wigan, did the same.
Now that I've thought about it, could our win in 1996 have been in the 96/97 season with the final being before the turn of the year? That would make sense.
And has anyone got a full list of Lancashire Cup winners? I want to see how we fare compared to Liverpool, Everton, United and City. None of this boring "Champions League" rubbish. Who wants to play AC Milan when you can play away at Morcambe?

Yeah Liverpool won a little badge or something for winning the 'champions league' - when were they last champions of Lancashire? eh? (and I mean the proper lancashire - the old boundaries) I reckon they must be too scared to enter or something.

After much searching I have found this:
Link: http://www.thefootballforum.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=24085&hl=Lancashire+Cup (posted on 4 June 2004)
LANCASHIRE FA officials met at Leyland yesterday to give the green light to the return of a long-established county cup competition.
The Thurston Road boardroom decision followed talks over recent weeks between several of the county's leading sides.
As a result, Premier League sides Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers will again do battle in the LFA Challenge Cup alongside six Nationwide League sides from this coming season.
And league officials based at Leyland were hopeful that FA Cup winners Manchester United would rejoin the competition the following season.
The Lancashire 'senior cup', as it is better known, was first held in 1879, but has not been contested since the late 1990s.
Blackburn Rovers are the all-time champion of champions in the contest with 16 wins, five more than next best Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Liverpool and Manchester United.
The only Red Rose club to come close to that record in Lancashire FA competitions is Chorley, with 13 wins in the 'junior cup', currently known as the Marsden Trophy.
Rovers kick off the new competition at Blackpool, while Bolton Wanderers host Preston North End, Oldham Athletic play Bury, and Burnley take on Rochdale.
The ties will be played on a knockout basis on first team or reserve grounds, and are set to include a mix of first team, reserve and youth players.
First round ties have to be complete by September 1, possibly as pre-season matches.

Bloody Owen Oyston - It's all anyone ever asks :D . We used to sing "He walks with a stick and he fiddles with his dick, Owen Oyston, Owen Oyston" anyway...
Owen is not well trusted by Pool fans - I don't know enough about the fine details of his trial to comment too much. His argument seemed to be 'I'm a socialist - the big scary men in black suits don't like me' - He came on the pitch once with a microphone when he was on bail - talked about plots and schemes. That was very very very surreal. More entertaining than watching a man in a gorrila suit throw footballs into the west paddock anyway which was the normal pre match build up..
In general the thought in the town was/is , why on earth would such a rich man need to rape someone? - Not a pleasant thought but that's the general feeling amongst Blackpool folk. If you want to pay for sex you certainly can here at the seaside. (not the voice of experience I may add.) - that may not be the most insightful opinion but it does raise a lot of eyebrows amongst people.
He's not trusted because his intentions for the club were blatently linked to getting his own way with the planning commision of the council. Owen would build a 'football ground' which would also be a concert venue, aqaurium, shopping centre 12000 room hotel and drive through vasectomy clinic. The council funniliy enough kept saying no. Owen claimed a plot against him here as well. Again including some waffle about being a socialist. A socialist estate agent (i ask you  )
His son (Karl) his now in charge. He's a tight fisted businessman (distinctly unflambouyent - definately no fedora!) who to be fair has done ok, we're solvent and have half a very nice, purpose built FOOTBALL ground. Owen's been seen at the odd game recently. I'd quite like him to put a bit of cash in - with the ground built nearly, he couldn't do too much damage. To be fair to Owen he rescued the club from the shit and very very nearly took us to Div 2 (champinship) when he did put the cash in. When it started kicking off he sold all the decent players and wanted his money back it seems. He claims to have but a lot of his own money into the club to keep us going which he's never recouped. It's probably true.

Oh well. I was going to email the FA for a list of winners. Still might actually. I'm sure it was played last few years with morcambe etc in it. I remember Jim Kenyon doing the draw on Radio Lancs. That says it hasn't been played since late 90's. Unless the non-league one is the 'junior cup'
