Pretty easy really; just hunt down the latest installer-less build (theer aren't official ones any more, but you can get all sorts of unofficial stuff from here (http://www.pryan.org/mozilla/)), unzip to somewhere on a flash drive and run firefox.exe. There's prolly a command line switch to use a different profile dir than the default ~/home one as well.

The portable firefox version writes to the flash disk as little as possible so the flash disk can last as long as possible AFAIK
what's the life span of a flash disk then?
Dunno, have a read of the specifications that came with it.

You're right, it's a better idea than using the nightlies, but I'd only just heard about it here.
Depending on who you listen to, flash memory has a lifetime of about 100,000 writes before it dies. This can be mitigated somewhat by using a filesystem which spreads writes across the whole disc rather than overwriting the same sectors over and over again (although this isn't an optino with windows).
