Anyone got any recommendations for somewhere fun and not too expensive.. I'm sure someone told me there is a great pizza place near there.. but can't remember where it is or what it's called.. anyway, somewhere with a bit of atmosphere for meeting old friends and chatting (also a few veggy options would be nice!)

How about the George Inn? Not exactly a restaurant but a pub serving food

The Banana Store (http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/show.shtml/1580/Banana_Store/London_Bridge) is another bar which does food, just the other side of Southwark Cathedral.

BTW I think there are 4 branches of Taz.

I went to that place for a work christmas do, and didn't think it was all that great. The food was pretty average, and it was expensive (although I think the prices were jacked up cos it was christmas). You could have the same thing around stokie for a fraction of the price... (albeit in less flashy surroundings)

"fish" in borough market is pretty good, a touch pricy, maybe £20 a head if you don't drink too much :D

I'd only recommend the one by the GLobe theatre but it is cheap as chips, for 9 nuggets you can get a fine meal, with free gorgeous soup, olives and bread as well!

The food remains pretty reliable, but the service can be ridiculously slow when they are busy (Thurs/Fri night and Sat lunchtime) and not much better at other times.

Peruvian?
http://www.london-se1.co.uk/restaurants/view.php?venueid=237
(havn't been myself)

Asian fusion?
http://www.london-se1.co.uk/restaurants/view.php?venueid=20
(booking advised)

I'll second Maggot's Bananna Bar tho' it's a basement bar, it does have very liberal view of chucking out time + Chzech bud on tap

Avoid the restaurants at Vinopolis and the Globe Theatre (expensive for what they are)

For the best view, try the upstairs area of the Pizza Express by the Globe.

Suchard's Thai restaurant is on Tooley St, 5 mins walk from London Bridge station. It's the best Thai food in the whole of London by miles (in my opinion, and many others!) - I worked near there for 3 years and we went almost every 2 weeks!

Home cooked, fresh, cheap, loads of veggie options, and in a casual cafe-style environment. Utterly, utterly divine. :)

The Peruvian place that Dashing Blade suggests is also very nice!

Fina Estampa on Tooley Street (which is Peruvian) is lovely (good food & service & nice ambience) & I think it has some decent veggie options.

There's a pretty decent Pizza Express around the back of the water front (near the gallery with all those wire frame sculptures).

Edit: Oops just realised I was thinking of Tower Bridge not London Bridge... :o

I lived one street down from there, it's a fantastic place. If someone fancied thai, I would suggest going there, even if you are on the other side of london. Bring your own bottle too.

I'm vegetarian. Went there once about 5mths. ago and have never felt the need to go back. Food was unappealing, unimaginative and greasy. WTF is deep-fat fryer oil doing on lettuce anyway? Served in a cramped transport-caff/school dinners style atmosphere.
As far as being the best in London, you're having a laugh. Places like Busaba and Thai Squared wipe the floor with this place any time, as do any number of independent restaurants in the Kingsland Road area.
If you must eat in this neck of the woods, do yourself a favour, cross over Tower Bridge and go to Wagamamas.
