You would be OK on the U75 server, but the problem is once you get a copy of HL2 and need to get it validated.........it would take you hours to get that done.

It's possible once you get that out of the way....it would just take you hours to do it.

Yep the original counterstrike was a Half-life Mod, written by some Canadian bloke - it was free as long as you had Half-Life to run it with. It quickly became the biggest online game ever.

So, when they done Half-Life 2, they brought out Counter-Strike Source.

Source is the name of the graphics engine for Half Life 2.

I've pulled of some pretty good stuff but it has been largely luck. My biggest problem when playing CSS is getting too stoned :D

Heh, something that’s not often talked about is the effect of a good team. If you play with good players the vibe you get can get you playing well because you feel part of a team.

U75 Clan server (Counterstrike Source)

If you have recently purchased your copy of Half Life 2 and don't what to do....

Fire Up Steam

Click on Servers

Click on the "Favourites" tab

Clikc on "Add Server" and enter 213.208.119.250:27025

You should then see a server called "jolt.co.uk - U75"

Click on that server entry

Click on "Join Game"

You should then connect to the U75 clan server.

If this is your first time playing counter-strike source, you'll want to do some fine tuning with your config....you know....make the mouse more sensitve, key bindings etc.

See you there at 21:30 tonight.

There was an upgrade done on the clients by Steam today. The servers most probably got the upgrade patch AFTER you got yours.

I've just tested and everything appears to be OK. Please try and connect again and you should get in with no problems.

I had a problem as well......it wasn't the same error, it was about the de_train map being different on the server as to whats on the new client.

It's now on de_dust.

Just equip it and use like I weapon IIRC. Don't need to place the bomb on the target, just near it. It will tell you when you're near enough.

Must remember to watch out for these games, I WILL get involved one night, honest :)

Swampy, you don't need a credit card for PayPal btw, you can setup a direct debit system. You add funds to your PayPal account from you bank account - but it normally takes 7 days to xfer.

The right weapon depends on the map and the tactic you want to use for the map, which you can change depending on the amount of people playing.

Be careful with the sub-machine guns, you should only buy the first if you are really skint, the second is best if you can't afford the 4th. The third is useless for the sheer fact it doesn't have many rounds per magazine and you'll always get caught out. The fourth is superb because it can be suprisnly accurate over mid distances and if you have a close encounter, as long as you get the first shot in, your enemy is fucked, he's going down and he can't fire back through the sheer shock of so many bullets.

I've noticed some real good stuff recently. I actually seen someone's gun fall in mid-air from their dead body, only for bullets to hit the gun and for it to fly across the room - there was even bullet sparks as the bullet hit the gun!

I've also noticed some very clever terrorists about. On one of the maps, there is some steel drums at the bomb detonation area. They plant the bomb, then shoot at a steel drum so it rolls along the floor, obscuring the bomb. I've seen confused counter-terrorists looking for the bomb! They eventually suss it, but don't have enough time to shoot the steel drum back out of the way so they can get at the bomb to defuse it.

As soon as you throw a flash bang, you need to look the other way. Flash-bangs are best thrown around corners, try bouncing them off walls, the side of door frames etc.

you can automate things like bying weapons, change to and throw a granede, send a radio command and reload... with writing scripts and bind them to keys to the scripts. so that instead of opening the bay menu and selecting a wepon and then opening the bay menu and selecting some ammo and so on you can use one or two buttons to do the lott and be done when the 4 - 6 seconds bay time is up.

so that you wont have to figgure out how to write the scripts but just plugg it in and it works you can use this:http://www.cstrike-planet.com/files?cat=5 i used the autoscript v1.0 exe file, if you can't fing it on the page you should be able to search for it there. make sure you download the source version.

there are some guides availible online on how to write scripts and such as well, some stuff is here: http://www.csnation.net/ and there are others as well i think.

i'm afraid it was me who had a mic yesterday, couldn't here myself though, something i though i would, so didn't use more then once. never done so before and got very self consious as well :o :rolleyes:

there are some raidio command as well that are usefull for telling on enemies but i never get around to use them.

layabout, if you have access to the cstrike directory (or corrensponding, that's what it's called in the clinet) on the server you should be able to change the mapcycle.txt to exclude the faulty map. if you allready knew that, i'll shut up straigth away :o

no . you learn the maps by running around on them and being ambushed a lot :p some maps are new ones assault2005 for example and you automatically dl those iof you join to a server using them. the maps on the u75 server are IIRC dust2, office, chateau and aztec

it won't hurt for you to run around on other servers before our game. it's completely different to COD. with COD i did the single player a couple of times before getting online, so i knew the weapons and maps. with CS you're just thrown straight in with people who know what they're doing.

top tip - press B when new game starts and buy helmet and kevlar if you can. if you can afford a decent weapon after that then get one but having armour is more important IMO. you can pick up a decent weapon when someone dies

it'sw quicker if you download maps before joining a server but the u75 server only run the maps that came with the game so no need to download, and most other servers do as well.

it is possible to load a server on your local mashine and play with bots (instructions kind of in the setup of the server) but you will need a fairly good mashine for it to run smothly. there you can also select how often the maps should change and so on. give it a try, the bots are quite good to play with for a beginer.

when you join a online server always follow your team mates and see what they do. never run around alone if you can help it. there is a litle circle in the top left corner where you can see your team mates, if you loose them try to join up with them agin. when you die you can use the jump (default to space) button to change the camera angle and use the first person one. gives a good insite to how others are playing and a good chanse to learn a bit. also the fire button (default to left mouse) allows you to change person to follow. there is also a free camera mode that you can use to zoom out and get a bit of an overview of the map.

Was a blast playing with so many U75ers, especially liked the Office map!

tagging is with Y or is it T? you can change your tag in your user control panel.you can do custom ones but you have to be clever to know how :o

it's not that difficult with source actulay. they support some formats, amogst them jpeg and png i think but not gifs. if you have an image that you want to use in said format there should be an option to import it in the options dialog. i'm using an old banksy image that i quite like. got to show you tonigh.

There was an upgrade to Steam.

The server has been updated so if you get an error message now, it's because your Steam client needs updating.

It's almost time to renew the U75Clan game server lease. I have not found a provider who allows BOTS on a shared game server.

The only way we can get BOTS at the moment is on a dedicated server. One day....one day.....but when we get to the stage where we need a dedicated server.......we won't need BOTS....annoying! :mad:

Oh,

I didn't want to say anything at the time, it was pointless.

The 2 jokers we was playing earlier on last night with names staring [DeeJay] were cheating. They was using AimBots. I know because I was watching them carefully. One of them managed to head shot 2 of us in a split second.......impossible to do for a human considering he was completly obscured by a smoke grenade.

After that incident they knew we might of cottoned on so they switched it off for a couple of rounds.

When dead, you have to watch them carefully.

I'm afraid there is going to be a lot of this kind of cheating going on until Valve release patches to detect it and stop it.

Please help me. If you spot visitors on the U75Clan server doing a whole load of head shots magically within a split second, it's a tale tale sign. Especially when the cunt is armed only with a pistol and managing to take out 3 or 4 of us in one go.....at 40 paces....

Good news layabout.

Valve are about to release the beta of the anti-cheating patch, which will record any cheating bot being used, and by who and then ban them from that server. There is more info on the steam update news page.

clan site and here for anouncements is usualy a good idea. and at 9 - 9.30 pm most if not every evning. just check if anyone is on the server, and if you get the server info box up you can see who is there as well.

why is VAC not enabled on the CS server and why is there nothing like adminmod on there, its wicked with rank and statsme an all, makes game more fun.

plus if its just you guys on it then enforce cheating-death on it which works very well!

I'll ask Jolt to install VAC. I'm only allowed to upload maps, everything else they must take care off.

Mind you having said that, I need to pull my fingers out on the admin side when it comes to that server.

I'll swot up and least be able to reset maps and kick those who are unrulely.

I asked everyone (Apart from 2 people left on a round) whether we should pull Compound and have de_dust.

Dont' get me wrong, I found the Compound map highly enjoyable, but when 6 people are playing on it, it's not as good as a de_dust map. That Compound map needs 12 of us.

Things are motoring quite well....we are getting some good games on a lot of nights. This afternoon, I'll finally swot up and get some better admin skills at the console. I'm real technical but I must come clean and admit I've really not bothered to learn the console...today is the day to sort that.

I'm also going to upload a certain map I've always found very funny. If you think you know what I'm on about, please don't post it, I would like it to be a pleasant suprise.

layabout, if you upload a custom map (i.e not one inclused in the standard install), could you also stick it on a download area of sorts on the clan server please. i hate waiting on crap downloads from servers for all sorts of stuff, especialy maps, it takes ages, and it's so much faster to get the map via a regular download in a zip and install it manualy.

compound is good but you're right, it needs more than 6 people

you're not going to use helms deep map are you? it looks great but is is rubbish for game play as the terrorsists spawn on the plain outside and all get shot down before they even make it to the walls

I read a few pages of the thread.. but can someone answer the same question again for me.

I have HL, CounterStrike and Steam. But I don't think I have upgraded to HL2. I played CS about a month ago and it downloaded some update and I was able to play. Do I need to buy something still?

Yes. You need to upgrade your account to HL2.

We are playing CounterStrike SOURCE - Which uses the SOURCE graphics, sound and physics engine as used in HL2.

not seen that one. aiming at something the size of an ant seems as though it might be quite tricky

I've played one called something like verticality which was OK but actual gameplay area was quite small.

and there's an odd one with two escher-like structures facing each other than each side snipes from. and you can fly , but i never worked out how :confused:

they are rat maps. can be fun as long as there aren't a load of snipers on them, and there always are, and i hate snipers. there are whole servers dedicated to them.

you need to buy hl2. othervise you wont get the updated graphics engine and can't play cs source.

You can download but yeah you have to pay...but it is worth it, its a good game and CSS is great fun with the Urban gaming massive!

Lol! Read that as "no more french chatterboxes"! Yeah a higher number allowance would be cool, not sure about kicking people though, wouldn't want us to get a reputation like that. If we really only wanted us on there we could always just password the server and post it up here?
