Got my mum coming down and she's bringing some lamb mince so, to go alongside the veg soup and garlic bread we're having, I'm going to do some little spiced lamb patties. She's also bringing scones and clotted cream
What did you have? My fav are the char sui buns and steamed shrimp and pork / scallop. Chorizo and 6 vegetable sauce with pasta here.
I'm going to do caponata with some crispy pork, rice and asparagus. More scones/jam/clotted cream for pudding.
Gammon joint cooked in the slow cooker with onion, celery, carrot and lentils. Roast potatoes and cauli cheese to go with it. Due to a family visit yesterday we've got leftovers of raspberry roulade and rhubarb and custard tart for pud
Roast chicken (breasts because that's all we've got in the freezer) with roast potatoes and baby carrots, broccoli and green beans. Chicken breasts make a crap roast really but I've got a bit of a hangover and want veg and gravy.
Oh I am but such a fickle lass. Always for desiring of what I do not have. The home-made burger has been the object of my watery chopped hunger all of this week. But now, the day on which we are to partake of this fayre..... I WANT A FUCKIN ROAST!!!
Roast beast *Dr Seuss* Would they be nice made in the oven , not fried? We haven't got a griddle pan any more.
Er, steamed pork and prawn dumplings. Amazing crispy outer coating (which I think may have been made from a type of yam ) with cha su pork and other stiff unside. Bean curd and prawn that managed to stay both crispy and slippery at the same time Duck spring rolls. Jerk chicken (to tip it's hat to Brixton) and sticky rice in a banana leaf parcel. Mushroom puffs. It was the best dim sum I have had by a long shot!! And not expensive. I heartily recommend Courtesan to any Londoners. The owner spent ages talking to us about it and seemed really excited and passionate about the food and the drink selection. Top night.
Mushroom, lentil and blue cheese pie, roast spuds and veg. Rhubarb and strawberry crumble with ice cream
Chicken curry, half n half with naans. Made my own paste but at the mo its got a weird bitter aftertaste. Hoping its going to cook out or miraculously disappear if i leave it on the hob for another hour. Otherwise its rice and chips with naan!
I don't have access to my recipe file right now, but mushrooms and rice go very well with some tomatoes and rosemary and a bit of stock
If you're talking long-grain as opposed to risotto rice, my mum used to make this, I still do and it's really good comfort food, hot or cold. Fry some sliced onions, chopped bacon and mushrooms in a frying pan with some butter (it has to be butter because of the mushrooms, nothing else will do for this dish) and fry up well (I usually put in a few chilli flakes, which my mum never did). Meantime cook the rice. Cook some mangetout or petis pois, or ordinary frozen peas. Stir it all together and eat.
My son's gone on a school journey to Berlin so just me and her for the next four days...and she has chosen scrambled eggs on toast for tonights dinner. Simple tastes that girl!
