Epic mid afternoon lunch / tea. I made carrot and tomato soup to start, home made lasagne with salad for main and a mate brought round a lovely apple cake for pudding. I am stuffed.
The fish pie was splendid as it goes It was mr madz's birthday so I made it a little bit posh. It had smoked coley, smoked haddock, various white fish and prawns in it and onions, spinach, fresh dill and fresh chopped chives. The sauce was just single cream and cheese and I put loads of emmental on the top because it's his favourite cheese. And we had birthday cake for pud
We had roast lamb but someone gave me the meat. It was basically a big slab of fat with a bit of meat. Shoulder perhaps? Anyway it was just to fatty and no one liked it. And I've got another one in the freezer.
We had an epic 3-tiered afternoon tea, including tiny cucumber sandwiches and a plethora of cake. So tonight I just chucked some grilled halloumi and salad in a pitta for a light meal.
Yesterday I did roast chicken, but I was too busy enjoying being in the garden to do a full on roast so we just had steamed new potatoes and salad with it. Tonight will be a pasta bake with the leftover chicken.
Just ate meat all weekend - chicken & tuna salad for lunch and then lamb dhansak on Friday, bacon, then pork chops, then venison steaks on Saturday, bacon then a ridiculous Harvester mixed grill of rump steak, sausage, chicken and some other meat thing Sunday. Think we might go veggie for a couple of days now Tonight is chana masala, dal and rice.
My daughter's still ill so, fuck it, gonna watch a film and get a takeaway tonight and then go out for the birthday meal on Saturday instead.
Chicken and blck bean chilli plus rice. Last nights lamb curry was lush ! Worth the 4 hour plus cooking time
Baked haddock with a herby crust plus new pots, broc and green beans. I am looking forward to health.
Heh. The mixed grill at the Harvester has that effect on many a committed carnivore too I merit. 5 types of bland meat, all cooked badly. Being lazy tonight ourselves, after a decent run on unadulterated home comfort cooking (chipotle/green tabasco and black bean chilli, Chicken macaroni stew). So it's a ham hock and chicken pie from M&S on their £10 deal, assorted green veg, some ok wine and some dessert or other. Bit of repotting (of yet more chillies) tonight instead of cooking
Mr madz and smallgirl ar having leftover fish pie and peas. I might just sling a potato in the microwave.
Pasta shells with chopped peppers, big flat chopped mushrooms, grated courgette, garlic, and chilli fried in butter and mixed into the pasta.
Roast vegetable tart with salad somehow turned into fish and chips followed by yet more white chocolate cheesecake
The spicy chicken is kind of like a curry - I might add a few peas to the bulgur wheat to perk it up a bit!
trying to use up the mountain of food that I have hoarded so out of the freezer; chicken, leek, mushroom pie with a potato and parsnip top with some sweetcorn and petit pois. The next couple of days will be a challenge as i've run out of veg other than frozen peas and sweetcorn
Got a piece of fillet steak cheap in the coop! Shoulda been 4 pound odd but it was reduced ta 1 pound 12p. Gonna slice it and make a steak sarnie on a part baked baguette with loadsa caramelized onions, french mustard an mayo.
I heart this thread. I now have the inspiration for my tea which will be Ham, egg n' chips (the Southern way )
