Help me export my itunes library to a simple spreadsheet

    This is what I want:

a list of all the albums in my itunes library, sortable by album title or album name.

I've managed to get something into an excel spreadsheet by c&p-ing straight from itunes to excel.

But each row represents a single track. So if I sort it by, say, album name, each album takes up several rows, and the whole spreadsheet is hundreds of miles from top to bottom.

Is there an easy way to reduce it to just one row per album?

Or a better way of exporting just the album titles & artists (ie not details for every single track) from itunes?

if you just want the album name you won't need each track so less rows.

Yes I know. The question is how I achieve that.

Include track number in the view you copy from
    Paste into Excel
Sort the whole lot by track number
    Delete Everything 2 and up
    Delete Song column
    Delete Track column

Can't you use autosummarise in Excel to do that?

Won't work if you're missing track one from any albums though.

What's wrong with itunes? I use it and it's great - you can add additional information and sort by any criteria you wish, and it syncs with the ipod, just what I want!

can't pinpoint anything in particular :)
I didn't realise my "hate a software" level could go higher than WMP until this came out. Only tried to deal with it a couple of times for other people on their machine tbh so my knowledge of it is minimal but it's enough.
All good if it rocks your boat though, horses for courses and all that.

No worries, it is big tho and tends to update all the time, but I am yet to find an alternative with the same level of user friendliness :)

    fair enough :)
I'm one of these annoying persons that like to be in control of what & how software does things rather than it doing it the way it wants.

I used to really hate itunes but don't mind it so much now that I understand how it works a bit better.
