Ok, so its my turn to do the cricket tea tomorrow. Unless someone comes up with some good ideas I'll do my usual, which is: Chicken drumsticks Sandwiches and rolls - ham and mustard and cheese and pickle seem to go down best pizza sausages Assorted biscuits Bloody enormous Victoria sponge with jam and buttercream Tea Orange squash The limitations are: Has to be suitable to serve cold buffet style Must be easily transportable They're a bunch of middle aged men. Any ideas for some variety?
That sounds good - I would maybe add some pork pie quarters or sausage rolls. Or maybe have them instead of the pizza (but that is mainly 'cos I like em!) Maybe another style of cake - slices of chocolate swiss roll or that kind of thing. Basically easy finger food which is what you've got
more cake melon crisps melon egg mayo sandwiches, tuna sandwiches (veggie stuff for non meat eaters) melon fruit melon sausage rolls rather sausages (sausages are good though) melon chocolate biscuits (your penguin types) melon lemon squash melon
Do you like melon by any chance? Actually I didn't think of taking fruit but something like melon, which is really refreshing, is a nice idea And penguin/club type biscuits is a suggestion of genius EVERYONE likes them and if they don't they are obviously a wrong 'un!!
I may have some experience of cricket lunches and teas.. Slices of melon win.. Anything sticky toffee related is dangerous If it's in a clubhouse and there's a bar, anything leftover at tea or saved for after the match will soak up the beer - and you'll be the most popular tea maker and the club will shine
Include classic cucumber in your sandwich selection: white bread, crusts removed and buttered. No cricket tea is complete without. Also nice to include fresh strawberries in some capacity. Personally I'd add them to the victoria sponge and replace the buttercream with fresh whipped cream. Alternatively, serve with short bread, fresh mint and cream. Oh and ditch the pizza, it has no place in a cricket tea.
well, I've gone ahead and made my world famous (famous in my world that is) Hunters Pie, which is made with layers of pork sausage meat, stuffing and apple sauce and is the best picnic pie in the universe. And this lot seem to like pizza, for some reason..................
Pie sounds good, but British soldiers didn't die fighting Italian fascism so that the English could eat pizza with their cricket teas
Well, the only leftovers were a few sandwiches, so it must have been ok. Final menu: Sticky chicken drumsticks Pizza Ham and mustard sandwiches/rolls Cheese and pickle " " Hunters pie Victoria sponge (made with the new cherry jam and vanilla buttercream) mini sausages assorted biscuits - bourbons/custard creams/shortbread/gingernuts oranges and strawberries Tea Orange squash Lemon squash
