Nutters!! Heels + ice = I have taken to wearing my CAT boots to work because they're warm and sturdy and useful when's one liftshare parks in a humungous puddle in the works carpark
The bad weather does not seem to have put-off the Northfield Choir carol singers - who at this very moment are absolutely murdering Once in Royal David's City!
The council are real stingy bastards and more or less bankrupt anyway, so it wouldn't surprise me if they do their best to magick-up some "health & safety" excuse to avoid the cost of repairing/replacing them!
I have just been informed that one of my elderly neighbour's garden gnomes has been blown away. I am not going to join the search party. So long as it ain't been blown into my garden, all is fine - if it has, it will get sledgehammered and a shallow grave!
It's all gone still and quiet again here. To be honest, we had worse winds here a few months ago without the fuss and school closures.
Ah, yes, I see now. The fireball bit is headed way over there. I hope no one was up there. Ooh @ tornado. I can report that my folk's village had an average windspeed of 29mph today with maximum gusts of 64mph.
Went all quiet later last night an a bright, crisp but not icy start this morning. Got to work and found one of the old roads through the site closed - A big old tree was taped-off and the by the way the section of wall beside it was bulging, I reckon it must have nearly toppled last night!
Nothing eventful here today, just cold. Spent the morning looking at and discussing pictures of turbines en flambe.
OH MY GOD i still have not recovered from the journey through hell yesterday...... First mistake - thinking it was ok to leave Dundee at 9.30, still relatively calm and trains running on time. By the time I got to Perth, only about 50 minutes later things started going tits up. waited there an hour more than I expected, but was told I should still get muy connection because everything was 'running late'. The next part of the journey took more thantwice the time it should - trees on line, power failures, landslides - you name it.... by the time I got to Inverness i already knew that not only were there no trains to Kyle but the road had been closed by the police. Also there was no mobile signal. But as I had no idea how I was getting home that was immaterial. Scotrail staff were shit tbh - I ended up bumming a lift on a private bus with staff and pupild from Plockton HIgh School (all darlings) The drive between Inverness was an absolute nightmare - I was sitting immediately behind teh driver - we had tostop twice while a mechanical grabber wrenched trees from teh road - the snow was horizontal - I know we narrowly avoided going off the road at least 3 times - at one point the police closed the main road and the coach had to follow a tiny single track ropad for 10 miles... When I got to Kyle I still had no idea how to contact my husband. I went into a bar - the Islander- here is the positive - I have never been in such a TOP bar with lovely people and great craic - they let me use the landline (and refused any money). I had to have several gin and tonics to cheer myself up like. eventually mr mania turned up - he had driven to Kyle and back twice (2oo miles) - for most of that time the Skye bridge was shut - only the second time ever for ordinary cars. I am still in shock - and i have to go to Edinburgh this Friday I just want to bury under a duvet and die....
It was but my fault _ I could have easily stayed in Dundee - was worried that I would lose out on my rail ticket. Shan't make that mistake again - am still reliving some of the swoops and swerves on the coach. OH YES it's snowing here again - winter 2011 - bring it on - not mr mania and I actually talked about emigrating -the very last thing I thought I'd EVER do
