Its simple argentinas military is bankrupt And likey to remain so as the argentine goverent dont trust them.
Without any ability to threaten and nothing to offer the uk or the islanders they can fuck off.

i'd imagine this is pretty much everybodies default position.

And i'm assuming sovereign control over the land mass in preferable in the hands of the british state than the argentinean state (unless you're turks and caicos islands, of course).

    but...

    1. the islanders are british citizens where ever they are based.Their status wouldn't change
    2. many of the islanders own land in the falklands, certainly own property, that status wouldn't change under a change of sovereignty.
    3. nobody actually really gives a shit about the people who live in the falklands, as has been made clear on here. "So what". British state doesn't, and certainly the argentinean state doesn't. To the british government they are useful tools as a gateway to the south pole, to the argentinean government a hinderance to they sovereignty claim over the land mass. The flag wavers couldn't give a shit just as long as the rock itself remain british
    4. The islanders right to live on the islands are based of the british government confering those rights. As i said the entire population of the falklands can be shipped en masse to stoke on trent tomorrow on the orders of the british government if it suited their purposes. Or as had happened in t & c islands, the british state can re-impose itself on the islands, deposing an elected government in what was essentially a coup.

    What's your point?

Give Argentina sovereignty of the Falklands? Talk to Argentina about sovereignty?

Why? And on what basis? Because they want them?

Actually the State does give a shit about the islanders their standard of living has improved by leap and bounds since the war.The only point of the war was British subjects were under foreign occupation.
Every other excuse for the war is after the fact justification a fascist government invaded a British dependency they navy knew they could get them back and the government signed off on it. Argentinean claims to the islands justifies a large military presence.

british subjects yes, british citizens no.

the islands economy is entirely self-sufficent and not dependent on government funding (apart from two "aid packages" which totalled £46m). The recent explosion in tourism, has certainly played a role in increasing the island's revenue, and of course the sale of fishing rights (which granted, was a british government implementation).

But keeping the islanders sweet is a necessary part of government policy in order to maintain their territorial rights in the antarctic, hence changing the islanders relationship to the land from a feudal one pre-war to the tenant farmers of today.

even in the 1970s when the islands were an embarresment and the fo was keen to get rid.
the islanders wishes beat the fo's clever plans.

(didnt help the fos case they were white and english speaking and argentina was not important)
    but thats racism for you.

the remments of empire self govern unless under threat or go batshit like turk and caios islands.

The islands were a forgotton outpost but that deosnt ean argentina gets them.
They invaded hence islands became important and stuff changed.
argentina can whinge all it likes.
Its arguments are insane whinges about 19th centuary history.
Its poor cowardly and incompetant perfect opponent.

Or the History of any powerful state. Unfortunately the British can't claim an exclusiveness on being Bastards they were just really good at it and the world has grown up somewhat since then so land grabs are considered a bad thing.Though the Falklands was at least empty land so no natives suffered in its colonization.

    Hang on!
Are you criticising the Argentinian invasion of the FI by comparing it with British imperialism of the past. or are you supporting the Argentinian actions in 1982 and therefore indicating a support of British imperialism?
