I'm totally indifferent about socks. Socks are socks and are merely a necessity. I buy nice, plain and boring M&S ones, either totally plain or with coloured toes and heels (purely to make them easier to pair up after washing).

Never buy any form of clothes for someone at Christmas, or for that matter, a birthday. People want to choose their own image. I always wear plain colours often black, grey, maybe a dark red, dark green. My sister once bought me a hideous rust coloured jumper with a check pattern on the front. She did it to 'liven me up'. I don't want livening up I want to wear plain colours and no patterns.

As for socks I always wear black or grey socks. I have small feet and fat ankles so socks with strong elastic dig in and leave a groove around my legs. I have to shop quite carefully for my socks to find those with little or no elastic in. If some clumsy relative or friend went out and bought me some socks, they would almost certainly be wrong. Sorry but I would not be wearing them even though I would feign gratitude.

I repeat, never buy clothes for people. If you arrange to you see them months later and they are wearing them you can be sure they have put them on for the first time to please you. That wouldn't be me though, there is an Oxfam within walking distance of my place.

You think that's bad? My sister once bought me a bright yellow jacket to brighten me up a bit You could see me half a mile away.:D

PS: I attempted to dye it but it wouldn't take.

She also bought me a red woolly scarf that I won't wear as it itches my neck and I prefer dark colours

Suppose it's my own fault for saying I can't think of anything I want.

Oh, and I've just remembered. She bought me a jumper about 10 years ago that I've also never worn. It's a winter one, it may have a poloneck but I can't remember, but I hate polonecks.

I could usually do with some new socks so I'd be perfectly happy if someone got me some. Maybe not if it was my brother who I'd spent twenty quid on or something but from me Auntie or someone- ideal.

I'll be buying wolfie a pair of socks (amongst other things) this christmas, I buy them for him and my sons most years.

The socks for wolfie cost £29.95 and they are knee high and all wool. I can't remember anything more about them but we saw them in a countrywear shop and he likes them. He wouldn't dream of paying so much for a pair of socks so Christmas is a good time to buy him a pair.
My sons both like Paul Smith socks so they usually get a pair each. I've also bought my daughter in law socks in the past. I love nice socks and like to give them as presents. I like receiving them too.

Another American site which has both the mushroom socks and the bike socks. I can't find them on any UK sites.

Minnie I am in genuine awe of you...I found those socks orignally whilst looking for simple striped socks and no amount of googling on my part could help me find them. Thank you...you are a star. And how amazing is that US sock site? x

Should bloody well think so, took me ages googling pictures of socks

Not being a sock fan, I find the US sock site unamazing :p

Now, bloody order the socks before you change your mind and come up with another design

Tip: If you google pictures and type "MUSHROOMS AND SOCKS" the mushroom ones come on page 10. If you search for "MUSHROOM AND SOCKS", it comes up on Page 2.

If you googled for the bike socks and entered "bike and socks and black and yellow", those ones appear on Page 2.

At least if you'd told me more about the socks, I'd have found them a bit quicker ;)

It wasn't a telling off really, just teasing.;) I realise not everyone has the same amount of spare time as me (or the patience) to go trawling through billions of pictures of socks, but if you want me to look for something, a bit more info is helpful :D

    Right moons, what's next? :hmm::D

I think socks are an ok present if they are a special pair, like Orang's knitted ones or if they were nice over knee ones etc. But not every year...

My mum has bought me tights and socks for every christmas and birthday for the last few years now, the tights are almost always footless! It's a waste of her money because I've got so many I just end up putting them in Clothes Swap or giving them to friends... I've told her nicely that if she really wants to get me a present then a voucher for a shop I like would be best then I can get something I really need. Now she gets my tights and vouchers bless her.

Wth the vouchers from last Christmas and my birthday we were able to buy a new quilt that has kept me a Scutta cosy through the recent cold snap
